Magical Express

We are considering that I fly down with our will be 9m old for our end of April trip. My husband, mom and our other 2 kids will drive so I won't have any luggage except for the bag I bring for baby. I know I need to call disney to "book" it but I'm wondering from those that have done it, how convenient was it? I never fly so I'm trying to plan it to be as easy as possible. Would it be better just just Uber from the airport?? We will be going to Ft.Wilderness campgrounds.

The convenient thing with a baby is not needing to bring a car seat (unless you’re planning to bring one on the plane either way) then us doesn’t require a car seat for the baby. Uber would. And they wouldn’t provide one. I think you’d need to bring a car seat or rent a car and rent a car seat.
That being said, I’m not sure how well covid guidelines are being followed on Magical Express right now and I don’t know if I’d want to bring the baby on the bus.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this because we have a trip planned in October and I’ll be flying with our 9yo, 4yo and 5 month old. Do we rent a car or hope for the best on the bus? It’s a hard call.

We just had a short trip in January without the babe and the regular bus was great save for one trip that was the first bus to MK. That one definitely felt crowded but everyone was masked etc. I'm not concerned about covid safety in the bus after flying tbh. And we actually had to Uber that trip and they provided a booster for our daughter and a car seat for our son so I think I'd be able to get an Uber with a car seat no issues. I guess I'm just wondering if one would be faster/easier/more convenient. The appeal for not needing a car seat is very strong though because this little guy hates car rides (hence why we are considering me flying with him) so just being able to hold him on the ME bus would be nice.

That’s great news about uber having car seats. It hasn’t been my experience, but we haven’t been in awhile...
Pre-covid the wait for the bus was sometimes a little longer than I would have liked. We used it many many times and loved the ease of knowing vacation started once we landed.

Yeah that sounds nice. Does each resort have their own bus or does each bus make multiple stops? The more I think the more I may Uber just to get there and be done. Pandemic babies are always the best at being out and about since they are used to being stuck at home constantly 🤣🤣

I think it depends on the level of Uber you get. And you can request the car seat. My only concern with an infant (and I took our youngest at 4 weeks to WDW and flew with him in a baby bjorn that trip🤦‍♀️) would be the safety of the Uber car seats. You wouldn’t know if the seat had been recalled or had been picked up at a yard sale/ hand-me-down . I’d be worried about the cleanliness of it, etc. After flying with our kids as babies, we bit the bullet and bought that extra seat and flew with the car seat. Definitely safer but a lot to manage as a solo parent flying. Could your mom fly with to help?

They definitely used to make multiple stops. They were geographically nearby, but it was annoying if you were the last stop. I don’t remember it ever being more than 3 stops.
If Uber has car seats and you feel comfortable using them, that might be the fastest option.

It depends on how full your bus is with people going to your resort. We’ve definitely made stops at “area” resorts like the resorts around port Orleans. We plan on doing ride share or car service to minimize the bus exposure on dme this time as well. 😕

This is pretty much my only concern is the car seats. Now we are ALL flying except for my husband. He's driving with ALL THE STUFF lol. It was only $125 more for us to fly versus all the stuff I'd have to pay to rent so the convenience got us lol. My husband is excited about 6 hours of alone time. I'm happy that he's going to be in charge of unpacking, getting the golf cart, groceries and set up of the crib so it's a win win. He MAY be able to pick us up from the airport. We may just use DME for getting back to the airport if it's possible to just do it that way. I'm trying to roll the dice about DME for arrival. We'd be getting in on Sunday 3pm. Crowds are low anyways, Sunday seems to be a lower day for arrivals (don't most people do Fri/sat arrival??)....we may be ok using it to get to the hotel. I just really don't want to be on a bus for 2 hours. I know the anticipation will be killing the kids and I'm sure our babe will be ready to get down and be free lol.

You can take DME just one way. If you book online there is a box to tick for one-way (I think it’s that way round).

We've definitely done it just one-way, and for just some in our party (it was easier to have all the luggage sent along with our kids and mother's ahead to the resort upon arrival) while DH and I rented the minivan and then met them at the resort. I didn't want to have to deal with having to check everyone into the minivan (6 people with ALL that luggage...would not fit). For the return, we used the bag drop-off for airline check-in and drove all of us to the airport in the minivan. Best way ever! The airline check-in at the resorts will be a program I am sad to see leave 😢

I'm glad you guys got it all figured out! And how great will it be if he could even pick you guys up from the airport! Even if he can't, some one posted either in another thread (or site) that taking DME on arrival the bus drivers are good about assigning socially distant seats and ensuring mask wearing. It's the return trip wear the bus is pretty much full! 😳

From our December trip - the ME did have 'assigned' seating to Pop. On the way back no, we were just encouraged to space out. We did have multiple stops going TO Pop, which was AoA and CBR. Going back, Pop was so full from the All Stars being shut down we had a Pop only ME back to MCO.

Yeah I think we will probably only ride it back. I'm not super concerned about the crowding. When we were there last month we were packed in to the bus to MK from pop. Still felt safer than my local Walmart 😂
