But they do pick up for flights that early?
Also, we have an unusual situation that is our 16 year old will be flying to a different location than us .... hence his flight out at 7am .... where our flight does not leave until 3pm. Is there any liklelyhood that disney would allow his dad to ride to the airport with him to make sure he gets checked in then return on the express bus to the hotel ..... only to leave later in the day on our flight?
Yes, Magical Express runs 24 hours - but luggage and resort airline check-in services are only available during certain times. You will not be able to do Resort Airline Check-In with a flight that early, so you'll need to go to the counter at the airport to check your bags.
Yes, they do. Believe me, you are not the first to have an early flight out, and you won't be the last. As was stated, the check-in desk is only open 4 am-1 pm, so your son will not be able to utilize it
The 16 year olds father would most likely not be able to accompany him. You'll get a transportation notice in your room the night before your flight, and if you don't have a boarding pass for that bus, you can't board. Your 16 year old will be fine going by himself. I'm a little bit older than him and have now gone by myself twice, so I can honestly say he will be fine. Just make sure he has some sort of government-issued photo ID. You could always ask, but I very much doubt it.
If possible, you might want to bump his flight back a little later (like 8 am or later) so that he can utlize resort check-in. That way, he wouldn't have to check in at the airport. You could help him check in at your resort, and then he can go to the airport and go straight through security.
ME runs 24 hours a day. We routinely take a 7am flight home and as we are trans-border we get picked up at 3am. The last few times we were picked up at this time we were on a full bus back to MCO.
If you contact DME and explain the situation, I believe they will allow your husband (and you if you wish) to depart WDW at the same time as your son. However, I am pretty sure they will NOT allow you to return to WDW after you drop him off. You would unfortunately be stuck in the airport for 8 hours.
Yes you can ride with him to and from the airport. You just need to get in contact with Mears who does the magically express and explain the situation and they will set you up in the system. I had to do this past August, our whole family was down when my mother in law passed away. My wife had to fly home and I had to go with her to the airport and help get her checked in. She does not fly very well and requires to be medicated (huge fear of flying), the medication makes her a little out of it. So I went to make sure she at least got checked in and thru security. Anyways ME is very understanding on things like this. Funny thing was I was on the ME bus back to the resort all by myself. Me and driver had a very nice conversation.
I had a seven am flight in Feb. DME said they would pick me up at 4:30. The hotel sent bell services at 04:00. I tried for 04:15 but the would not budge. Bell services showed up for 03:55, and there was actually a bus there when we got to the front of the hotel 10 min. later. This was at POR. Was rough getting up that early but I was back at my house in New Orleans at 9am. Oh, you will be responsible for your own bags, there is no resort check in that early.
If you are flying a major airline, then he can check in online the day before. If he is a responsible boy and you trust him, then all he has to do is get off the bus, drop off his bags at the counter, and go thru security. I have 13 and 15 year old girls, and they do this stuff all the time on their own. Thats one of the things i love about Disney....they make it easy for kids to do things on their own.
