Magical Express Concern

We just recieved our ME luggage tags. I called WDW and gave them our flight information but when I go on MY Vacation, the only thing listed in the dates we come in. No times, airline info, nothing. When I was giving her the flight info her computer was acting strange. So my worry is, we won't get our luggage. Since we have the ME tags, they do know to grab them and take them right?

Just forget those silly, silly tags.

When you arrive, get your own luggage, and then get on the DME.

I don't understand why anyone would do it, as it only takes a few minutes to get your own bags, and there are so many things along the way that can go wrong if you let Disney do it. If a bag never shows up, you will have no idea whom to blame - did the airline loose it or did it fall off the back of the DME transport on the way to WDW.

I think DME is great, but I just don't understand the luggage service. It's just a big headache, and Orlando is actually one of the easiest airports to claim your luggage at. I just marveled early during DME's life (first or second week) watching these poor people sitting there describing their bags, pointing at pictures in a catalog, "It sort of looked like this one, but smaller and with a different handle". I just didn't understand why these tag-less people would go to all that trouble to not walk a couple hundred feet and just get it themsleves.

Save yourself a headache and waiting and all the possible things that could go wrong along the way - get your own bags, board DME, arrive at WDW, and you are done; no waiting for bags, no chance of it getting lost past the airport. Last trip I made to WDW, I checked into my room and there were a dozen bags sitting there, waiting to be picked up for DME. It's good that I'm a nice person, but if I weren't...I could have done anything I wanted with them. My stuff isn't vital, but it's more important to me than to leave it willy-nilly and take the chance that something like that could happen.

This is sort of off topic and possibly a silly question but I really don't know: How many carry on bags is one allowed on a plane?
The best thing to do would be to check your airline's website. Each airline can be different. We fly primarily American and you are allowed 1 carry on and 1 personal item i.e. purse, backpack, briefcase, etc.

hokielutz - As a rule, most domestic airlines allow one carry on suitcase/duffle, and a personal item. The personal items range from a purse, bag of souveniers, a briefcase, or a laptop computer bag.
Just be sure to check the airline's webpage for definite answers to this question.
Now that you say that...I remember my mother always gives the souvenier bag to my father to carry on the plane. LOL. Thanks for clearing that up. I was on the right track...hehe.

I would highly recomed using DME as it is agreat servece and yes you should put the tags on your bags, if you want to get to the parks as soon as you get there. By putting the tags on the bags you don't have to worry about getting your bags at the airport. You can then just get on the bus and head straight into the world.

Also if there are any problems with lost luggege I am shure the hotel staff would be more then willing to help you with all the powers of mickey.

Because it is easier when you have a large family and don't have to worry about bags, as most families have carry ons and strollers to contend with.

I have used the luggage service many times and it works fine. I don't want to collect my luggage and haul it around, if you do so be it, but I don't. With DME my pack mule days are over. Besides it takes long enough for the dme drivers to load the strollers before we take off, why burden them with luggage too and delay my take off to the hotel.

When I just came back on May 23 (flew on AA), I had a small rolling duffle (with my laptop in it) that fit under the seat, a medium disney shopping bag, a medium paper shopping bag and my tote bag that had my purse in it. I had no problem getting on the flight with that stuff, considering that some people look like they are bringing everything they own with them. No one has ever questioned me and everyone knows that coming back from WDW you are going to have some bags with you. There are times when I have gone to WDW and just brought along an empty suitcase for all those outlet purchases and that has worked very well.

A few minutes? It's always been my experience that it takes at least a half hour for the bags to even start showing up at baggage claim after you arrive, and then it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to another half hour for you get actually get your bag, depending on where it was packed in the plane. Between spending upwards of an hour between deplaning and boarding a bus to being on a DME bus 15 minutes after I land, I'll let Disney take care of my bags. I haven't heard any cases of Disney losing bags (temporarily misplacing, yes, but not losing), so if your bag is lost, it's usually the airline--in which case I'd rather be at the parks, let Disney deal with the problem, and then when I return later in the evening, odds are the problem will have already been dealt with, and my bags will be in my room waiting for me--a ton of stress that I never had to worry about. My flight for my next trip arrives at 11 am, so by the time I get back to the resort from the parks after midnight, I am not at all worried that my bags won't be there waiting for me.
