So does anybody know any information about the Tunnel system that goes right under the Magic Kingdom like spokes on a wheel?
If so tell me about them.

It's called utlidor and carries all the "lifelines" for all attractions in the Magic Kingdom and allows maintainence to work out of sight of guests. Also, it provides quick access for CM's from one side of the park to another.

I have a map of it, but I can't find it right now....

Utilidors

Check at City Hall first thing if you're here visiting... I believe they have daily tours. Or if you're planning a vacation, ask your "Vacation Planner" at 1-407-W-DISNEY about "Keys to the Kingdom" and "Backstage Magic" tours.

There's been a few threads on this subject. Click here for a trip report on "Keys...".

The utilidors are the real first floor of the Magic Kingdom... the park is built on raised ground, as the second floor. In many ways, they're like the basement corridors of any building... vent pipes overhead, bare concrete floors, the occasional fork-lift beeping at you. What makes them different is the variety of people going to/from breaks in various costumes. Yes, there's break rooms... even a full-service cafeteria with faux windows on a tropical scene. Also wardrobe, a salon, and warehouse space.

Other than the occasional painted wall, or the level of security you'll find... the utilidors look pretty much like 'behind the scenes' at any mall, large store, or hotel. They'd probably be of most interest to persons who just sort of wonder what it takes to make a theme park work.

Chad, I don't know about that. I'd think they might just 'hop the counter' or duck below it somehow. But you may be right... just that it's news to me.

Nope! Thats what I thought, I figured they'd have one of those little doors on the counter that you'd duck under, but I didn't see one, so I asked the lady (while I was getting one of those delicous Oreo-dusted vanilla ice cream cream cones of extinction) and she pointed to a door (Where his tail is) and said there was a tunnel that connected gertie with the boat resteraunt on the otherside of Echo lake, she said there where a few other tunnels, too.

I remember my first time venturing past the cafeteria (at the entrance, under IASW- you can smell the chlorine), I had to navigate the utilidors by myself. Boy, was that an adventure!:lookaroun My sister gave me directions on how to get to a "safe" place in the park, rather than popping up in the middle of a ride or something. According to her directions, I would end up behind Sir Mickey's, or I could take another hallway and be near Winnie the Pooh.

I followed her directions, which led me to a stairway marked "Snow White, Mr. Toad". That is where I was supposed to be. When I got up the stairs, I went straight out the door and followed the walkway out to the park. I came out by Mrs. Potts Cupboard!!!:veryconfu Oh well. At least I survived that scary place.:brick:

I've got to head over there now and check out a couple of things. First, the Oreo-dusted vanilla ice cream cones!

Then to ask around a bit about that tunnel. As I'm sure you know, a certain percentage of the WDW cast is made up of jokesters! Fer instance... the Chip 'N Dale parking lot was for many years a guest parking lot for the Magic Kingdom... close enough to walk to the TTC without catching a tram. You had to walk across a road (Seven Seas Lane) to get there, so at busy traffic times, a Parking Host/Hostess would act as crossing guard. And act, some did. Some... after stopping traffic... would instruct the waiting guests to skip across the road, or walk like robots, etc. It was a hoot, watching the guests play along with this.

I haven't seen that one yet, but I love what some of the tram operators say.."Any lost children will become property of It's A small world" Etc..etc :)
But, away from the thread drift, this lady seemed rather scared that I asked her, she wasn't one of the 'better' cm's, and obviously wasn't used to people asking her questions other then "How much does extra sprinkles cost?" So, I think she was telling the truth. I don't imagine the tunnels are ANYTHING like MK's though, probably just a few for Charecters and stuff.

I think we should be careful about posting to people asking about this stuff. YOu never know if it is a terrorist. I hate that we have to even think that way, but you know.
