Magic Bands and resort entry

I just got back from a trip and had a thought about the security guards who let the guest enter the resort areas. I know you can either use your Drivers License or a Magic Band for them to scan to let you in, but is the Magic Band scan just for identification purposes? Lets say someone stayed at a different resort, could they just have the guard scan their band or if you don't stay at that one does it not let you in?

The band tells them who you are. They can then access the info tied to your name. My understanding is the band does not contain any info other than it has your ID number.

Last year when we stayed at the GF my Magic Band opened the gate to get onto the resort. When we drove to the Polynesian at some point during the stay it did not open the gate.

Thanks for the replies. That's what I was thinking. Either way I don't mind using my ID to get onto the resorts, they've never turned me away yet

DH had to show BOTH his Driver's Lisence and MB whenever he entered the parking lot to our resort. If he'd just used the MB, it would say that he was staying at the resort, but what's to prevent someone from lending their MB to someone else? So he had to show both.

Hmm. Guess that varies depending on the resort and current crowd/security situation.
Two months ago it was either band or ID to get into Saratoga. Never both. Scanning the band was always faster.

I was just down there last week for an offsite work conference in Championsgate and my family was flying in the end of the week to join me onsite.
I took a coworker to Sanaa my last night and then drove over to AOA to show him around as he is thinking of taking his wife and five girls at some point. When we drove up to the gate, I told the guard we just wanted to look around and that I was checking in at another resort the next day. He scanned my band said "Yeah I see that you are checking into Coronado Springs. Have a nice night." and waived us through.

I knew that my Magic Band would be a lot faster then my drivers license and it was. I can certainly understand checking both if sightseeing a resort closer to a park or if you appear to be one who puts "pizza" fliers under doors.

BTW, my coworker was really impressed with both AKL(s) and AOA.
