Magic band help

Hi all,

Looking for some help or advice. Next week we are planning our first trip to WDW since 2019. I dug out our old OG MagicBands, which have our names on them (Model MB-R2G1) and tried to link them to our profile.

When I’m in the WDW app, there is a place where you can scan/tap the band. With mine/my wife’s it says “Validation Error - Could not determine Media state”

When I try either of my boys bands, it says “This MagicBand has already been claimed”

I don’t see them listed/linked anywhere on our profile. Our first day will be at Epcot, and we are staying offsite. I’d rather not spend a ton of time at Guest Services sorting them out, and would likely just skip it if they aren’t working and go from my phone.

Any suggestions on how to validate they are still linked? Is there a WDW number to call and sort out ahead of time? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Using the WDW webpage, not the app, log into your MDE account.
At the very bottom of the page, the right column is called My Disney Experience and there is a list of links. One of them (#4) is called "My Magic Bands and Cards." If you click on that and scroll down to the bottom, you'll get a list of every member of your party and all the magic bands and cards that are associated with each member of your party.

Under each band/card listed, you have the opportunity to activate any that are deactivated, and deactivate any that are activated.

In my experience, you can have quite a few active and everything works fine, but it also makes sense to deactivate bands you are no longer using. The old bands have a battery that eventually stops working. Once it stops working, the old bands can still be used (to open a hotel room door, and as a park ticket), but they don't capture some ride photos. (like 7D)

The rechargeable bands are also a bit of a pain. They have to be properly charged, turned on, and linked to work. Sometimes you have to use the app to restore function via the app using each person's phone.

Before your visit, it is possible to also get help from WDW if you call. They can walk you through the specifics and help troubleshoot.
