For those who won't be asking for a KTTW card in lieu of a Magic Band, but don't want to wear their Magic Band "as is," I wanted to create a place to post your ideas for customizing your Magic Band yourself, making DIY charms or "cover bands," or wearing it in a "non-traditional" way.

For example, I have issues with wearing things on my wrists for extended periods of time. I plan on drilling a hole in the Magic Band strap large enough to accommodate the carabiner-style key fob hook that is sewn into my park bag. The hook is on a 12" ribbon, so the Magic Band will be able to be removed from the bag for scanning purposes without unhooking it. I can wear the Magic Band for as long as I can stand it every day, and then stick it on the key fob.

I also plan to "modify" my kids' Magic Bands by putting my cell phone number on the inside of the band with a Sharpie, so that if they get lost, they can ask a CM to call me. (We'll have to see how fast it wears off.) I may try to sew them some "cover bands" from a stretch fabric (similar to the neoprene used to make sunglasses retainers) as well, just so they can play around with them, although it's only a matter of time before someone on ebay or etsy starts mass-producing their own cheaper version, I think -- or starts marketing the charms made for Crocs as Magic Band charms. :D:rolleyes:

If you put a hole in the Magic Bands, be sure to do it out in the area where the pre-punched holes are. Otherwise, you'll damage the electronics that are inside the solid area.

I LOVE this idea! We have little tattoos we bought when my son was born that have our phone number on them (the sort you put on with a wet washcloth) and he wears those each trip but what a great idea to also put your number on the band. I wonder if I could put the tattoo on the band... hmmmmm!!

I have been thinking about trying to attach an old watch face to the band. Not sure how it will work, but I know if I have something around my left wrist, I will expect it to be a watch!

Even though I haven't worn a wristwatch for years, when I had a magic band on in September, I kept looking at my wrist for the time!

One can easily be made to fit the slider add-ons that they have, with just an LED timepiece built in. Unless it would interfere with the transmission of the main RFID chip....

Very Creative thread!

My kids loathe wearing "watch-type" bracelets, even paper bracelets bother them. Sooooo, I am thinking of different ways to carry around their MB's, but still making them easily accessible. I do like the idea of adding a comfortable fabric to the back...even for us adults! I am even thinking about adding a stroller hook to my park bag and then attach our MB's to it, creating a massive key ring?!o_O

I guess I'll wait to see what y'all come up with in the coming months!

They are already for sale at WDW. Did you really think they would pass up that money maker.

If you are making a hole in the band to attach it to something, be careful. As Tom said, enlarge an existing hole. However I would also put it in the colored part - not the black part. The black part is meant to peel off so you can resize the band for a smaller wrist. You dont want the band attachment to start to peel that part off and loose the rest of the band.

Making what? If you mean the band covers, I know -- but I'm not going to pay what they cost.
