Magic Band (and connecting room and e-ticket)

So its been a few years since we've been to the World and the Magic Bands, while they worked really cool on the cruise ship for checking our kids in/out of the kids club, seem to really confuse me with all the other options they provide. For example:
If we book a room through Disney, but buy (e-) tickets through work because they are less expensive, can the tickets be connected the Magic Bands? Or if we end up renting points from a broker (like David's), can room and tickets be linked?? Or does everything have to be bought through disney travel in order to work for staying on property? Thanks for helping a Magic Band newbie try to understand the new technology :)

Nothing is actually "linked" directly to a Band. Instead, the Band is a "pointer" to your My Disney Experience profile.

Then, everything else (tickets, room, FP+) is stored on your profile. When you scan your Band, the system looks you up and then accesses the appropriate information.

So the short answer is yes, the Band can access your room and tickets, regardless of where you night them, as long as everything is linked to your profile.

What Rob said, and...

For example, if you rent points through a legitimate broker, you'll receive the actual confirmation number for the reservation. You can then link it to your My Disney Experience account.

And/or if you buy legitimate Disney tickets through an authorized reseller, you will be able to link the serial numbers on those tickets to your MDE profile.

If you have both a room and tickets linked to the profile, you will be able to book Fastpass+ (up to 60 days before check-in).

All the band does is replace your room key, ticket, and credit card once on property. Your band points to your account, and your account has all the info. Nothing but a serial number is stored on the band itself.
