It's not unheard of for an attraction to come out of rehab a day or so early, but it doesn't happen too often. Do you have park hopper passes? If you do, you could tour everything else at Epcot earlier in your vacation, then hop over and catch a ride on Maelstrom.

With any luck there might be a "soft opening" when you're at Epcot before the 24th.
Otherwise you'll have to say "oofda" ( a scandinavian saying)

Wow - oofda? My family is scandinavian and used that for years and I just figured it was a nonsense word they made up.

I think the proper way to say it would be "Uff-da". Here is my question about the refurb. Will the movie at the end "Spirit of Norway" still be playing? I know...it's kind of lame to some, but I'm bringing friends down with us and their Norwegian heritage is important to them. So any part of the Norway pavilion they can see, the better. We are already doing a princess lunch at Akershus. Thanks for any info on the film if it will still be showing or not.

Heading for the great escape.
Is their any truth that the floor of the theatre is being resurfaced as a running track so people can get through the area quicker

You had to remind me that it is closed while I am there:cry:

I almost called off my trip....first the treehouse and then Maelstrom!!! I was not to happy about that. Thank goodness SSE reopens just before I get there.

Not to get off subject but... I hope that during the refurb they fix the stupid drop. It has to be the most rough drop in any themepark. The boat shakes really hard when it's dropping. Pirates of the Caribbean has a really smooth drop. Maybe it's just the boat thats the problem and not the drop. A year back a small child in the row in front of me wasn't holding on to her mom and fell into the floor. Seat belts might be needed for little one's.

rougher than Splash, Big Thunder Mountain, ? I've always considered it a tame drop and never once considered it rough.

Funny you should say that. From the Cast Portal:

Exciting New Changes to the Maelstrom Post-Show
As part of the Year of a Million Dreams, the post-show theater in the Norway Pavilion at Epcot will be getting some exiting new changes. As a way to surprise and delight our health-conscious guests of all ages, the area at the front of the theater will be re-surfaced with state-of-the-art polymer materials to allow its use as a short-distance running track. In keeping with the theme of the area, this track will be whimsically disguised as a moss-covered cobblestone road. To enhance the experience, the theme from St. Elmo's Fire will be incorporated to the ambient music loop in that area. Once guests turn the corner from the theater into the gift shop, they will be presented with a space blanket and a Magical Moment Certificate to commemorate their accomplishment.
