No claim of responsibility, but officials blame terrorists from Basque separatist group ETA

Spain has been always fighting ETA... A friend of mine who lives downtown Madrid now (and who is safe, thank God!) told me that during the past month, they had frustrated their attacks... I guess this time, they couldn´t. :(

Dave, listen to Kvan, she lives there, she should know better... As far as I recall, ETA has been feared by everyone in Spain.

I am sorry about your friends, and I am glad you are fine. We are all sad this happened. :(

After just moving away from DC, its amazing how you just cant get away from the threats of the world. I know that this is one of the threats teh metrorail system in DC takes seriously. Today, its all too real.

Good point, Katrien. I wasn't really sure what it was all about before... thanks for your insight.

CONFIRMD: AL QUAEDA did it

from ny times:There was no advance warning of the attacks. At first, the Spanish authorities blamed E.T.A., the Basque group that has been seeking independence from Spain for more than three decades.

Later today, however, the Interior Ministry said the police had found a van with detonators and an Arabic-language tape of Koranic verses, according to news agencies, and that it was considering all lines of investigation.

An Arabic newspaper, Al-Quds al-Arabi, said it had received a claim of responsibility for theid train bombings issued in the name of Al Qaeda.

The five-page e-mail claim, signed by the shadowy Brigade of Abu Hafs al-Masri, was received at the paper's London offices. It said the brigade's `death squad" had penetrated "one of the pillars of the crusade alliance, Spain."

"This is part of settling old accounts with Spain, the crusader, and America's ally in its war against Islam," the claim said.

I feel awful for Spain. Maybe this will spark more of a world-wide effort to get rid of the scum that do this to innocent people. These cowards! They claim they are warriors... lets see them fight against the American Military. Lets see them fight against the Spanish military... the Israeli army... these terrorists would get crushed.

Our thoughts and prayers go to Spain.

:( This is horrible. If only the world could instantly be eradicated from terrorism and absolute evil. Unfortunately, I fear this war will rage for a very very long time. Ah, well I'm praying for the families of these victims. :(

This news was just breaking this morning when I left home, at that time, the death toll was just 5. The latest count is 190. This is so awful, I can't even begin to imagine what the spanish people are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to them all.

Thoughts and prayers are with you in Spain.

Al qaeda also says they are getting ready to attack France and are 90% ready for their next attack on the US.

FOX NEWS:

"THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE BOMBS WENT OFF"

Are there usually warnings?......

That goes as the stupidest headline.
