Lugging the DSLR around WDW parks and rides

If this has already been covered in a previous thread, my apologies in advance for starting a new thread.

It's been about 7 years since I last went to the parks, and I was thinking about taking the DSLR (Olympus e-510) with me on my upcoming trip. I imagine there is probably no issue of carrying the camera/camera bag on some of the tamer rides, but I was wondering if some of the faster paced ones (like rockin roller coaster and expedition everest) and water rides will have a good place to keep them safe while you're enjoying the ride. Or is there a place you can leave stuff without worrying about someone running off with your stuff.

Thanks in advance for your help,
mike

I brought mine along for those rougher rides but stowed away in a camera bag and in the bag compartment.

Not sure about the water rides though....perhaps a waterproof camera bag?

Mike,

I never let my stuff out of my sight. Never put you camera gear down unattended.

Anyways, you'll have room at your feet for your camera bag on both of those coasters. As for the water rides, i highly advise against bringing it on summit plummit, but as long as its in the bag on Splash (on your seat, next to you and possibly inside a Disney merch bag to boot) or in the center thingy on Rapids, it should be fine.

You shouldnt have a problem at all. Just pick a comfy bag that you dont mind dragging around for a week.

Happy shooting.

Thanks for the info BillyBuff and PhotoDave,

I guess I should have mentioned I meant the water rides outside of the water parks.

The camera bag I have is a Tamrac System 6 bag (not immensely huge, but not small either) which I can kind of fit between my legs.

Can't wait for the trip. Thanks again for the help.

I had these very same questions. I was thinking about bringing a few small trash bags for rides where I could/will get wet.

Buy your camera bag with comfort in mind and with an adequate amount of protection from knocks and bangs. When it comes to Splash, Pirates etc wrap your equipment inside a polythene bag inside your chosen camera bag.

Remember one thing when it comes to the Disney merch bags. If they get too wet, the ink will run. So after the rain has passed, its best to dispose of them quickly.

The biggest problem i have with working out of a camera backpack is the constant in and out of the bag.

Of course Lowepro discontinued the backpack i use when i travel. Between that and the rolling case, i can have almost a portable studio in 2 bags.

I've been using a Domke messenger /shoulder bag but for last weeks trip I got a Kata 3n1 20. It's both a backpack and sling. I switched it up each day using the Domke bag a few days as well. I liked it because it swings around in front by taking one strap off. Although it comes with a rain sack I found it to be lacking. Each day I carried my ole faithful small garbage bags. Great for wet rides and during torrential showers then just throw them away. Gift bag ink rubs off as Dave mentioned but they are handy in a pinch.
