Lugging it Around

My dear WDWMAGIC friends, there is a crisis brewing in the Shoes Household.

We are in need of a new piece of luggage. The 24" suitcase we have will not survive another airplane trip, although it is fine to throw into the trunk of the car.

Next summer my 17 year old will be going to England, so we want to get something that will make it through all of that abuse.

I'm thinking that it needs wheels, and I tend to prefer soft sided just because it is so much lighter in weight.

Luggage goes on sale frequently, so I would like some ideas of what kind of deals to grab.

Also--is it true that black luggage is "safer" in Europe? Does red or green luggage immediately tag you as an American tourist and therefore an easy crime victim?

Thank you in advance for your insight and wisdom.

I´m a suitcase lover and own most of the suitcases in my house (I was amazed myself), however, my favorite and most useful piece of luggage is a wonderful Ricardo carry on that I bought in Michigan for $40usd. It was a great deal as the tag originally said more than $100usd.
This is a 41"(I think) expandable carry on in black. The perfect size to fit in the airplane compartments (if that is still allowed) and perfect to walk around with it.
I took it with me to Europe as my only piece of luggage and it exceeded my expectations. It has a net with a zipper to put your underwear or so, then two elasticized bags to put shoes in them. In addition, it has another zipper in the main compartment, and three more on the covers to put flat stuff in them. It expands too so it´s perfect!
Almost all my suitcases are black, mainly because I find them elegant, but it´s a pain when you have to pick them up from the carrousel. That´s when I always wish mine were red. ;)

The best suitcases are the ones that are taller than they are wide, and have the plastic handle that pops out so you can roll it easily... I can't even imagine lugging around the other kind anymore... (even though I still have a few of those kinds)

All my luggage is blue... but just because blue is my favorite color! :-)

My preference is Travelpro luggage, which is expensive, but lasts a long time. (Many flight attendents use Travelpro). Macy's carries it, and has been running some great sales in the last few weeks.

I was about to write that.
I recommend taking advantage of Macys doorbuster sales because you can receive upto 60% off luggage. Can't beat that.

I am growing a goatee....I can do that now, as my office has moved to a "non-crappy rule zone", which covers the bottom of my face....I just need something to cover the top...........hmmmmm........ :goodnevil

We've got 2 sets of Soft Sided American Tourister...navy blue. They are "nesting sets...the largest is 24' x 12" with a slightly smaller one inside of that & a carry on shoulder bag inside of that. They have wheels & a retractable plastic handle. The large one has a zipper that will let you open it up another inch (depth wise, which is good because I like to shop). The sets are $160 each, but I got them in Kohl's this past February...buy one get one free! Keep you eye open for sales. Another thing...if you want locks get the approved ones or they will cut yours off at the airport when they do the inspections.
