Ok so a newbie, I am going to WDW in the Fall and never had a magic band, its been 3 years and they were just testing them when I last visited. SO I saw online the cute Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse Magic Band.....at Disney Store online, $22.....when one purchases tickets and resort online just how much choice do you have for designs? Do they just allow colors or do they allow these Disney upgrades for additional $? Do I need to purchase beforehand and link it to my reservations? THANKS ;)

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
No you can only get the solid color magic bands included with your resort reservation. The special bands you have to purchase extra at the park, Shop Disney Park App, or Disney Store online. You can purchase now or wait until you get there it makes no difference. All magic bands can be stored in your MDE account and used on your trip. Your tickets and room etc will work with any that you add to your MDE account. Nothing is tied to a particular band they all work by pulling your info from your MDE account. :)

Thank you so much sxeensweet, now I understand. Figure if I have to wear one I might as well pick something I like! :) My son told me they were good for 2 years as well?

There is an internal battery that has a reported lifespan of 2-3 years. But the battery only powers the long-range functions of the Band, which are currently only auto-linking on-ride photos and the small bits of "magic" interactive features.

All tap-to-use functions (room key, tickets, FastPass, room charge) will work indefinitely, even after the battery has died.

I bought a SW band , and had it linked at guest relations at the hotel , everything worked EXCEPT the dining plan for some reason. I found that out by going to lunch at a different Disney resorte with my family and having lunch there . I had to pay cash, but after 45 mins and multiple trips to get snacks in the souvenir shop (Which they credited my account back for) they finally got it right.

Personally I'd just get the solid color band and get and etsy vendor to make you a decal(s) for under $5. I can't believe how much they charge for the decorated inches

I saw the things they sell to put in the holes.....bling for another $7.99.....;)my wrists are very very tiny and I had to really yank my sons to make it fit, do they have a smaller size for children? I love using etsy, will check out their décor for magicbands thanks. :)

Yup most do!

If you don't see one contact a vendor to see if they'll make custom!

My family wanted something other than the plain color bands so my kids and wife each got one and they worked fine. I stuck with the plain color band and saved the $20 which I'm sure I wound up spending on something else.

You simply remove the outer edge and peel it away, leaving a smaller size behind. My wrists are small so I have to take the extra portion off and then wear it on the last two holes.

Ooooh thanks for the pic, a visual always helps...my sons mb is from last year so I don't see that feature. He wore his quite loose but it would bother me as such. ;) Good to know its so adjustable. :)

It's always been an option. You peel off the darker grey portion. Separate at the base of the colored portion and peel. Mine is blue and shows what it looks like after. The orange is my husband's and is the full length the way it's shipped. After you remove it, it doesn't have the dark grey edge nor the excess holes. You cannot undo it though so be sure the holes you wear it on are on the COLORED portion of the band!

Oooh that is rather cool, and it would be even lighter on the wrist! Does it stay fastened just as well and is it equally as smooth on the inner side?

So long as it fits your wrist using the holes within the colored portion, yeah it will stay fastened just as well. They're the same holes, just less of them! :D All of mine have been peeled for the shorter length and I've worn them for over a year on a couple dozen visits without problems. The only thing that changes is you have less extra length to deal with.
