I reserved a week, 9/10 - 9/17 , 2013 to take my entire family ( 17 of us). children & grandchildren. They've NEVER been to Florida, let alone Disney. Now, I remember that May 7 Sept are the LOVEBUG months!!! And I've been in Central Florida, The Villages retirement community in past Mays.
PLEASE tell me, how bad is the SEPTEMBER lovebug infestation, at WDW???
Please???

First, welcome to the WDWMagic boards!

Yes, September is a big month for the Love Bugs but since they don't bite and aren't really looking to share a meal with you, its really just a matter of brushing them off of you. Nothing to fear and no reason to worry about them.

Have a great vacation!

don't know if this is true or not (read as- "something they tell the stupid tourists and see if they buy it"), but when i was there and not lovin' the love bugs, the CM told me that they like white. I took off my white coverup and put it nearby and believe it or not, i saw them swarming around that, but they sort of left me alone after that.
any Florida pros confirm this or tell me about the power of suggestion?

We went for our honeymoon Sept 2002, the 15 - 23 and the Love bugs were there. They weren't that bad though. Definitely not bad enought o ruin our trip. We went back Sept 8 - 16, 2007 and we didn't see any. I wouldn't really worry about them too much. Have a great time!

North Fl. here but yes it is true about white. We even painted our doors on our home in 2011, granted we lived in the country, but It helped tremendously. We are in Tallahassee Fl. for 2 two years now but imo they have been really mild this year. Some years are worse then others. Side note.....Just be sure to get them off your car. If they dry they can ruin your paint.

Always wondered why.... I never see a mosquito on site, but those love bugs come in clouds. Are they not handled by any natural predators or any measures WDW can do to keep them at bay? Thank God they dont bite like mosquitoes... I get enough of those in Maine.

Love bug season was short and mild this month so I'm hoping for the same in the fall. Yes they prefer light colors so watch what you wear. My house is a light blue and white doors/trim and sometimes I can't even see my doors they are so bad.

I live in central Florida and the most annoying thing about the bugs, IMO, is that they get into my car when I lower the windows at the ATM or whatever.

They don't ruin the paint on my car.

They don't bite.

I think they do like light colors, but my house is white and they don't hang out on my house.

Some seasons are worse than others. Spring this year wasn't really bad at all. :)

Same -- I've been there in May and I've been there in September and I've never been bothered by them -- in fact, there are a lot less of them around WDW than around other areas in Florida -- I've seen way more of them in the Villages -- and of course anywhere more rural/watery in FLorida than at WDW --

We've been in September in 2012, 2011, and 2008. In those three years we've never had a problem with them in the parks. Sure, you'll notice them but it's not quite the horror movie scene that you might be expecting from what some people or books say.
You mean like the mayflies at Cedar Point?

I was in South Florida early in May and they were really bad. They didn't bother us and they don't bite. My 4 year old actually liked them! But my in-laws that live there said that May is worse then September so you should be fine. Just prepare to wash your car if you drive because they will stick to the front!
