LOST - TV show attraction

Did Disney miss the boat (no pun intended) in not putting in a LOST attraction? As wildly successful as that show was, I am surprised that we never saw anything related to that show, say in the studios theme park.

What could it have been if there was one? For me I would have taken the Back Lot tour and turn it into some Dharma Orientation thing. Use the first part where you have the ship and the weapons and re-imagine it into some type of island defense training, and then have the tram tour part be an Island tour. Catastrophe Canyon could be where "The Incident" happened or where the monster comes or something. All while that Dr Chang guy is narrating over the speakers.

If I recall correctly at one point they were considering re-vitalizing Discovery Island for some Lost Based game but it never happened..I could be off tho...

Having just re-watched the show the last 2 seasons went off the deep end and ended up drowning. I think after the writers strike the show never recovered.

It would be cool if they built the hatch somewhere.

The show went on longer than it was supposed to. They weren't expecting to have as many seasons as they did but got surprised that ABC extended it. That's when things got really out of hand and quite stupid.

You're talking right up my alley here! In SYWTBAI season nine as one of the last projects we had contestants pitch a Lost attraction. @JokersWild ended up winning even though he'd never watched the show :p I agree there's a TON of opportunities for a theme park environment. The show has a built in mythology and awesome environment already in place. I always imagined the queue taking place in the Swan hatch complete with a button that'd have to be pushed every 108 seconds instead of minutes. The ride vehicles would be DHARMA buses and the ride experience would go through all the different iconic locations such as the Black Rock and the Barrocks, and end with a climatic encounter with Smokie.

On the subject of later season Lost, I actually love season five and consider it my second favorite season after two. Maybe that's just because I'm a time travel junkie, but I thought it was an ingenious device for us to see a lot of the island's history...plus season five gave us the EPIC Sawyer/Juliet love story (and I don't use "epic" and love story in the same sentence much... ;) ) I also thought the cliffhangers of that season were insane with the reveal of "Fake Locke" and the bomb going off.

Season six...yeaaaaa. It had some strong elements to it, most notably Terry O'Quinn as "Fake Locke". I love the way he played it mostly as a new character but inserted familiar elements of John Locke in just the right spots as if the real Locke was still inside him somewhere wanting to get out. My favorite season six moment is in the episode "The Substitute" where fake Locke yells at Sawyer Locke's iconic "DON'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN'T DO!"

That being said, the flash sideways should have NEVER existed and absolutely tainted the season. It would have been SOOOO much better if they'd spent more time fleshing out the backstories of the island, instead of trying to cram all the island history stuff into what I consider to be the absolute WORST episode of the series in "Beyond the Sea".

I still hold out hope for a Lost movie. I can totally envision a scenario where the remnants of DHARMA try to take back the island and Hurley and Ben have to recruit our familiar characters to save it. I can just picture a scenario where Sawyer's on a plane and he realizes he's going back to the island, and the camera pans in on a closeup of his face as he gives a dramatic "sonofab*tch!"

On a side note, the one redeeming element of the finale I thought saved it was how Ben's story arc wrapped up. It absolutely melts my heart every time I watch Hurley offer Ben the position of second in command near the end and Ben is genuinely touched by the offer. It's like in that moment he FINALLY achieved what he'd been trying to accomplish the entire series. Plus the idea of Ben staying outside the church to figure things out while the others "move on" is probably the ONE redeeming element of the entire flash sideways storyline. Again, melts my heart when Hurley approaches Ben outside the church and Ben smiles and says "hello, Hugo!".

Also, the hand to hand fight between Fake Locke and Jack was pretty freaking epic.

If you had asked me when the show was in it's prime, I would have probably said YES right away. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe something along the lines of Jack Sparrow or Narnia would have sufficed. Not a true attraction or ride. The backlot tour could have been a cool touch. Definitely would have been the perfect spot for it.

I gotta say tho, I don't think it's done. In this day and age, we've got new Jurassic Park, Star Wars, X-Files, 24, Prison Break, Wet Hot American Summer, Full House, Girl Meets World, and many more... I fulllllly expect them to resurrect this franchise sometime soon. I know I would certainly be interested in seeing a limited run. Could spark some interest in the Studios.

I've always thought the show set itself up well for a follow-up, especially with how Ben and Hurley's storyline wraps up. It almost feels like the original show ended with a transition into a new era of history on the island...one that we just have to use our imaginations about for the time being. If there was one point to the flash sideways it was probably to give the characters a concrete "end" to their journey, but beings as though we have no idea how long each of the characters continued to live until going to the sideways-verse there's still a TON of story to tell. I'm thinking if they ever do a follow up it will concentrate mostly on a grown up version of Walt and Hurley trying to hone his powers for the good of the island or something. They certainly set up a Hurley/Walt story with that little short on the season six DVD.
