WESH Channel 2 news (NBC) announced this morning that Mission:Space is now "open" on random days. They also mentioned what Disney calls their "soft" opening in August and an official dedication in October.

They showed some b-roll of the ride vehicles and video footage, explaning that the ride is based on large centrifuges.

M:S also made the front page of the Money section of the Orlando Sentinel today. Full color pictures of the X2 interior, post-show, and building exterior were nice. I'm sure someone else will be posting that article anytime now.

When will Disney (EPCOT) finally put this thing on their park map? I mean, the fact that the thing is up and running (randomly or otherwise) has been on the news.

Well according to the new Disney World website map, Mission: SPACE is located right next to "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience!" Perhaps they will fix it soon.

Here is the link to the article on Mission:Space in the Orlando Sentinel:

..and here is the link to the article from WESH news:

Both reference an actual NASA scientist, Dave Lavery, who experienced Mission Space recently calling it "cool" and a great tool for recruiting new astronauts. I think this is a pretty large feat for one attraction in a large theme park.

Ever been to a grocery store "Grand Opening Celebration" several months after it really opened? Same with M:S and it's "official" October opening.

Plus, by announcing the October date, Disney covered its butt in the event M:S had major technical problems these first few months (i.e. Test Track). Fortunately, it appears to be running flawlessly (although only 2 of 4 centrifuges are running)

take a look at the disney website it says august 15th and if technical problems did happen they would come out and say it to people who would ask about the ride. i asked about test track before it was open why it wasnt open and they told me why.

CNBC had an interview on Vac/travel with a reporter form the Orl. Sentinel. She said the press were given a ride recently, and they said the reporter was stuck in her "seat", but was unhurt, and was released using a "$5.00 wrench" She said she liked the ride.

And I still don't see why people are getting the soft opening date confused with the Grand opening date. Oh well.. I guess only time will tell who is wrong and who is correct. :hammer:

is there any way to find out what days the ride will be open? I will be down there from the 2nd of August till the 12th, and I would love a ride on it, since the 'soft' opening date is only 3 days after that!

should I wait until we get there, and ask someone there?
