I live in Denver, where by some twist of fate, we got the 1st preview shows of the Little Mermaid before she swims out to New York, and I was blown away!!!!
The sets were simple but effective. The costumes were great (and included "heelies", the roller-skate shoes, which let the swimming characters look like they were gliding through the water). The songs, new and old, were perfect. And all the things that would be difficult to handle (underwater scenes, size difference with humans/Sebastian, Ursala's tentacles, etc...) were handled wonderfully.
If you live in or around Denver, see this show now. If you are going to be in New York soon, don't miss it. I saw Beauty and the Beast and Lion King, and this is by far the best Broadway show Disney has produced. It is nothing like the Voyage of the Little Mermaid in MGM, so don't skip it if this is your concern.
Bravo on a job well done!
