Why is everyone adding the word "literally" to almost every sentence lately? And usually incorrectly. What is going on? Is this just a NYC thing or is everyone in the country drinking the literally juice?
It's a cultural thing. I've seen it on both sides of the country. I think it's used to try to add importance (drama) to what is being said. Why is everyone adding the word "literally" to almost every sentence lately? And usually incorrectly. What is going on? You poor thing!I, literally, have no idea.
That literally blows my mind. It's just the evolution of the English language. People sometimes use it today to emphasize what they are saying, or to exaggerate what is being said. For example "That is literally the worst news I've ever heard in my life!" Although it is not likely the worst news the person has ever heard, "literally" is used to exaggerate the circumstance or bring attention to it.
Literally.
Both sides of the border too. It's a cultural thing. I've seen it on both sides of the country.
The worst part of that phrase is that most of the people that say it have no idea what back in the day means. To them a few months will qualify."Back in the day" is another one I'm tired of hearing.
Totally.At this point in time...
At the end of the day...
Know what I mean?
Like...
Whatever...
There are just too many expressions and phrases that bug me. LOL!!
I, like, literally, have no idea what you mean. Know what I mean? But at the end of the day, ya know, whatever. At this point in time...

I actually like "whatever".I, like, literally, have no idea what you mean. Know what I mean? But at the end of the day, ya know, whatever.
I have a t-shirt that just says...WHATEVER, across the front. I cannot believe how many people stop me to tell me how much they like that shirt. Perhaps it's because I don't actually say it. That might help. Oh, well...whatever!I actually like "whatever".
Infused with the appropriate amount of derision, it can easily replace a multitude of less PG-rated expressions.
