List of rides and attractions for Disney Studios

As many of you already know, I have completed (more or less) my Magic Kingdom park, and about to start on my second park, Disney Studios (name of park's location). However, I am trying to make the layout of this park easier to navigate than Disney-MGM, possibly with a hub-type design.

Disney Studios will open around the same time as the MK or shortly afterward, since one of the things I wanted for my Disney theme park resort was a production facility of sort sort as of opening day (more or less). Therefore, Disney Studios will open primarily as a TV/film production facility, with a few rides and attractions. After a few years, if/when profits and park attendance rise, Disney Studios will expand into a full-fledged theme park on the scale of Disney-MGM in Orlando!

As of opening day, Disney Studios will have six soundstages, a backlot (complete with Residential Street, similar to WDW's now-defunct attraction), an animation studio, as well as the Earfell Tower; which will be an actual working water tower as opposed to the oversized prop at Disney-MGM!

Rides and attractions with an asterik * are completely originals (never appeared in a Disney theme park before), and rides/attractions with 2 asteriks ** may exist at Disney-MGM or other parks, but are very different from Disney-MGM, etc.; for example, the majority of scenes in The Great Movie Ride are different from WDW's ride, and California Adventure has The Hyperion Theater, but has a completely different show and possibly different architecture inside. Rides that are the same (more or less) as Disney-MGM or CA has no asterik. Anyway, here is my list of opening-day rides and attractions:

1.) Cinemagic Special Effects Stage: This is a live stage show focusing on special effects for movies and TV; which also includes audience participation in a few segments! *

2.) Disney Sound Studio: where guests add sound effects to various Disney cartoons! ** (this is almost a completely hands-on attraction, unlike the Sounds Dangerous show with Drew Carey which currently runs at Disney-MGM!)

3.) The Great Movie Ride **

4.) Hyperion Theater: This is a large theater designed much like a movie palace-type cinema theater from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Hyperion Theater presents a multi-character show (with characters from various Disney cartoons) similar (but not exactly!) to the show currently running on the Disney Cruise Line. *

5.) Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular: I know Disney-MGM has this, but I decided to throw Indy in since I think this is one of their very best shows!

6.) Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3-D

7.) The Magic of Disney Animation: ** which features 3 different types of animation:

a.) Cel Animation: Due to Disney's infamous decision to curtail traditional cel animation, this will be used primarily for demonstration purposes, made for TV/Disney Channel cartoons, as well as an occasional cartoon short to go with some of Disney's feature films!

b.) 3-D Computer Animation: This will be the studio's main product, for reasons described above.

c.) Clay Animation: almost entirely for demonstration purposes; since Disney has used (or plans to use) very little of this product. So far, all I have seen are those promos Disney Channel runs early in the mornings.

In addition, The Magic of Disney Animation features an interactive area, where guests can learn a few tricks of the trade!

8.) Star Tours

9.) Studio Tour: Behind the Scenes: ** (given 2 asteriks since the studio facility is quite different from Disney-MGM)

10.) That's Entertainment! Hollyood Gallery: Similar to The Disney Gallery in the Magic Kingdom and the Main Street Exposition Hall in WDW's MK; but focuses on Hollywood and the entertainment industry. That's Entertainment! Hollywood Gallery includes various Hollywood-related exhibits, artifacts, and memorabilia. *

11.) Tron: The Ride: This is based on an earlier proposal on this forum, based on the 1982 film Tron. IIRC, this ride was basically a dark ride with interactive elements much like Buzz Lightyear has. (correct me if I'm wrong!) Even though I was not the first to propose this ride, so far this has never been built, which makes Tron an completely original attraction! *

12.) Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

13.) Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Play It!

So far, only 5 of 13 rides an attractions are the same as Disney-MGM, and 4 of there are originals. Hyperion Theater is considered an original since it features a brand new show. The remaining remaining 4 exist in Orlando and/or Anaheim, but have significant enough differences to set them apart!

PARADE: a Hollywood-themed parade similar to the Lights, Camera, Action parade at Walt Disney Studios in Paris. Like the WDS Paris parade, this parade uses actual floats as opposed to the antique cars used in Disney-MGM's parade. One of the floats in this (name of area) parade will be the movie projector float with Tinker Bell sitting in front of the lens!

In addition, the parade at Disney Studios (name of area) will include Hollywood themed songs/show tunes such as Hooray For Hollywood, There's No Business Like Show Business, We're in the Money, You Ought to Be in Pictures, and That's Entertainment!, just to name a few!

If anyone has questions, comments, and/or suggestions, please feel free to post! :)

WOW, you have some great ideas!!!
I love the idea of the Cinemagic show, the Sound Studio, and the Hollywood gallery. I'm also glad that you kept the Great Movie Ride, Indy, and Muppet Vision (3 of my favorites) :sohappy:

How about...

Mickey's House of Mouse

It will be a sit-down restaurant, and you'll be able to watch famous Disney cartoons with Mickey and his friends.

Also Mickey will be hosting the show, so he'll introduce the next cartoon each time. It will be a restaurant with a little Entertainment tied it.

What do you guys think?

What about the Great Muppet Movie ride near Muppet Vision, creating a mini Muppet area.
Great Muppet Movie ride was going to include spoofs of many films. It included a Frankenstein scene, Pigs in Space the Movie, and a spoof of PeterPan. It included many of the backstage chaos stuff the muppets are known for.

I like Tahu's mini Muppet area. Why not a kids land muppet area. Thre could be, "The Muppet Works" a water play ground in Proffessor Honey Dew and Beaker's labs, "Gonzo's Wild Studio Tour" a mini coaster where Gonzo tries to give you a tour of the muppets studios area, but the track isn't built very properly, "Pigs in Space" dark ride, ect, ect...

Kent, even though I am tired of people always doing studios as their sister counter parts to the magic kingdoms, you've done an acceptionaly good job with this studios and I am very impressed with your work. However, why not a rockin Roller Coaster? Also, what props and sets will people see from the Studio Tour? How about the exterior facade for the black pearl, the treasure caves from POTC, the Haunted Mansion exterior, a few tents from Holes, and maybe a few things from Touchtone movies like Hildalgo.

When did Disney-MGM plan a Great Muppet Movie Ride? First I ever heard of this!

I hope this is not a replacement for the regular Great Movie Ride. If this is an additional attraction, I would very likely consider it, but not as a replacement for GMR.

So far, I had planned 12 rides and attractions for Disney Studios in addition to the studio tour. As I said earlier, Disney Studios will open around the same time as the Magic Kingdom or shortly afterward, since I wanted to have a production facility on my Disney theme park resort's property as of opening day!

Everyone that has replied has come up with some GREAT ideas for Disney Studios. I'd love to have more than the 12 rides/attractions and the studio tour I mentioned above, but I'm not sure if adding more rides and attractions for opening day would cause problems with overbuild, or if having more than the 12 that I originally listed would draw more guests to my Disney Studios park. What does everyone else here think? I'd really like to know! :D

It was planned in the early 90's, but was never built, due to Jim Henson's death. It wasn't going to replace GMR,but was going to be built across from Muppet Vision. I read about it in a Jim Hill article at Laughing Place.
Other plans for the Muppet Mini area included a Muppet Version of Planet Hollywood run by Gonzo.

for Disney Studios

I now have a few additions/revisions to my Disney Studios park, as well as a list of lands/streets for this park.

Here is my (revised) list of rides and attractions for Disney Studios:

1.) Cinemagic Special Effects Stage: This is a live stage show focusing on special effects for movies and TV; which also includes audience participation in a few segments!

2.) Disney Sound Studio: where guests add sound effects to various Disney cartoons! (this is almost a completely hands-on attraction, unlike the Sounds Dangerous show with Drew Carey which currently runs at Disney-MGM!)

3.) The Great Movie Ride Once again, GMR will have primarily different scenes from its WDW/Disney-MGM counterpart. Since I have never been to WDW and therefore, never rode GMR, I'll have to go by what I have listed in Birnbaum's Official Guide. So far, the only movie scene which I would have remain the same is the Wizard of Oz scene, since that was a landmark motion picture and a favorite of children, whom WDW's park are geared primarily to. Not sure about the others, however I will also include Mary Poppins on my GMR, but with a different scene. WDW's has the Chim Chim Cher-ee scene with Mary Poppins flying with her magic umbrella and Bert singing and dancing on a rooftop. Mine will have the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious song & dance scene from Mary Poppins

4.) The Great Muppet Movie Ride: This is basically a spoof of the Great Movie Ride, where the Muppets give guests their takes on various classic films; such Frankenstein, Pigs in Space: The Movie, and spoofs Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz, just to name a few! Also, about halfway through the ride, we'll re-create an infamous scene from The Muppet Movie, where the film jams and breaks halfway through the movie. Kermit asks what happened, and The Swedish Chef (who is the projectionist) responds, with film wrapped all over him! Here is a sound bite from this scene:

http://users.ev1.net/~russ3/WavFiles/chef.wav

5.) Hook's Revenge: Shaped like Captain Hook's ship, the Jolly Roger, this ride swings guests backward and forward before completing a series of 360 degree rotations. This is similar to Rocket Power Airtime (formerly the Gauntlet) at Paramount's Carowinds, and can be found in the Animation Courtyard.

6.) Hyperion Theater: This is a large theater designed much like a movie palace-type cinema theater from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Hyperion Theater presents a multi-character show (with characters from various Disney cartoons) similar (but not exactly!) to the show currently running on the Disney Cruise Line.

7.) Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular: I know Disney-MGM has this, but I decided to throw Indy in since I think this is one of their very best shows!

8.) Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3-D

9.) Lilo & Stitch's Hawaiian Roller Coaster also found in the Animation Courtyard

10.) The Magic of Disney Animation: which features 3 different types of animation:

a.) Cel Animation: Due to Disney's infamous decision to curtail traditional cel animation, this will be used primarily for demonstration purposes, made for TV/Disney Channel cartoons, as well as an occasional cartoon short to go with some of Disney's feature films!

b.) 3-D Computer Animation: This will be the studio's main product, for reasons described above.

c.) Clay Animation: almost entirely for demonstration purposes; since Disney has used (or plans to use) very little of this product. So far, all I have seen are those promos Disney Channel runs early in the mornings.

In addition, The Magic of Disney Animation features an interactive area, where guests can learn a few tricks of the trade!

11.) Monsters Inc. dark ride

12.) Star Tours

13.) Studio Tour: Behind the Scenes:

14.) That's Entertainment! Hollywood Gallery:
Similar to The Disney Gallery in the Magic Kingdom and the Main Street Exposition Hall in WDW's MK; but focuses on Hollywood and the entertainment industry. That's Entertainment! Hollywood Gallery includes various Hollywood-related exhibits, artifacts, and memorabilia.

15.) Tron: The Ride: This is based on an earlier proposal on this forum, based on the 1982 film Tron. IIRC, this ride was basically a dark ride with interactive elements much like Buzz Lightyear has. (correct me if I'm wrong!) Even though I was not the first to propose this ride, so far this has never been built, which makes Tron an completely original attraction!

16.) Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

17.) Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Play It!

Last but not least, here are the lands/streets I have planned for Disney Studios:

1.) Animation Courtyard: located around The Magic of Disney Animation, and also includes Hook's Revenge, L&S Hawaiian Roller coaster, and the Monsters Inc. dark ride.

2.) The Backlot: includes the backlot portion of the Studio Tour, Residential Street, and Catastrophe Canyon (also part of the backlot)

3.) Hollywood Boulevard
4.) Muppet Courtyard:
which includes The Great Muppet Movie Ride and Muppet*Vision 3-D
5.) New York Street
6.) Production Courtyard
(located by the actual studios themselves)
7.) Sunset Boulevard

If anyone has questions, comments, and/or suggestions, please feel free to post! I could also greatly use ideas of suggestions for the Disney Studios park layout. I look forward to hearing from you! :)

I like your ideas, but the only things I don't like are:

The Captain Hook Swinging ship. What's the story? It's too carnival like.

The Lilo and Stitch Hawaiian Rollercoaster. What's it look like? What't the story? I think a Lilo and Stitch dark ride or a Stitches Great escape would be better.

The story? If you're familiar with the story (and the cartoon as well, not to mention the recent live-action movie) of Peter Pan, you should know. The circling platform is shaped like Hook's ship, the Jolly Roger. Given this rides intesity, the faint hearted and those uneasy with thrill rides would get the impression of being Hook's captives on The Jolly Roger! In other words, the "swinging around in circles" could be called "Hook's Revenge" on the riders!

BTW, I personally think it fits just fine, especially in the Animation Courtyard!

The Lilo and Stitch Hawaiian Rollercoaster. What's it look like? What't the story? I think a Lilo and Stitch dark ride or a Stitches Great escape would be better.

There was a song in Lilo & Stitch entitled Hawaiian Roller Coaster. Can remember for the life of me if Lilo & Stitch actually rode a roller coaster in the cartoon, but it seems like it!
Here is a URL with a soundfile and lyrics to Hawaiian Roller Coaster:

http://www.lightfantastic.org/imr/extras/av/hawaiianrollercoaster.html

As for Stitch's Great Escape, I already have that in the Magic Kingdom park, which can be found in Discoveryland next to Autopia and Imageworks.

Hope this answers your question! :D
