Likelihood of getting upgraded?

On my cruise I booked in May, we chose the cheapest category which was a 12. We were automatically given an 11 (which really isn't much difference). My travel agent said that there is a good chance that we will be upgraded even higher since we booked guaranteed.

I was wondering, what do you think my chances are getting upgraded based on the experiences from you veteran cruisers?

Seriously....there is a whole involved process they use for selling out Cruise Ships. I'll try to sum it up....(PAM...HELP ME IF THIS MAKES NO SENSE!!!) :wave:

If a ship's lower category rooms are selling much quicker than their higher category rooms, the Cruise Line can sell more low price rooms at the FULL price rather than at a DISCOUNT. In this case, you would have a good chance of getting an upgrade if you paid FULL price for a lower category room.

If higher category rooms are selling quicker, there is a smaller chance of you getting an upgrade, but also a better chance of getting a lower category room at a DISCOUNTED price.

The whole goal is to fill the ship at the best possible profit!

What I would do is go with the mindset that you will not be upgraded. This way if it does not happen you will not be dissapointed. Also you can check at the peir about upgradeing. Alot of times you can upgrade at the peir for a cheaper price than prior to sail date.

We chose the cheaper category rooms because we probably won't be spending alot of time in it anyway. If we get upgraded, great. If we don't, that's fine too since that's what we paid for.

I was just curious how many times or what percentage previous cruisers have been upgraded.

We got a special rate of $399 for our category 12-11, so I can't complain if we stay in that category.
