Lighting protection in rain?

Maybe a WDW tech can answer my question...Earlier in the month I was at MNSSHP and the parade was a little delayed due to rain and lightning, although I noticed the gobo scanners (are those IBeams or what? j/w) and all other lighting was still exposed on the rooftop with no (visible to my knowledge) cover of any kind. I believe the foggers were the same way. Does Disney just repair what may get damaged, or was there a protection that I didn't notice?

Thanks alot!

I am quite sure they use weatherproof housing for the lights shining on the castle, however I did not notice any cover on the rooftop lights....So I'm just curious about that...

Some are in are protected, like the castle, others are not. They replace whatever is broken. They're mainly concerned with the most expensive lights, like moving fixtures. Others, such as par cans and leko/altman are replacable, and I've seen those left out several times.

hey thanks!

What are the moving fixtures atop the buildings on Main Street? I figured they were cyberlights but I wasn't sure.

Those are not Ibeams there cyberlights liek the ones used on teh castle and there protected by Hurrican Encloseurs jsut the lights the castle. The otehr lights are outdoor theatrical lights. I think they are either Altman Outdoor Par 64's or SLC Otdoor Par 64's. And I also think we use some of these im not sure though - a Altman ODEC Outdoor Framing Projector (which is a normal ellipsoidal but proofed for outdoors). Im not sure wath foggers your talking about. If you want to get more info you can either email me or talk to me on AIM or MSN. My AIM address is LighitngDes and my MSN is Lightingdesigner1@comcast.net.

Hey guys I'm back, ready to bump it up...

All foggers for MNSSHP are LeMaitre G300s. Some are fitted with C02 attachments for low lying fog.

On top of mainstreet are High End Technobeam-i. Pirates of the Carribean are four Cyberlight Lithos.

Everything is Reedy Creek mandated to outdoor UL codes for installations (such as the Castle). The event lighting is mostly regular par cans and Source 4 ellipsoidals....some PARnels, cyc lights, and other odds and ends. Those are left on the roof. We figure we can't damage them too much...except rust, which we can't help unfortunately. For the events, we try to get up there and cover the movers as quick as possible, because it gets costly to repair rain damaged fixtures.

We don't have ODECs anywhere on property except for in front of the Icon at Studios...and they don't work, haha. They are too big and bulky to have 50 of them on a rooftop for an event, not to mention they cost around $1500 a piece.
