LIFETIME Television Ranks #1 in Primetime for July Holding the Top Spot for 7 Consecutive Months this Year Among all Basic Cable Networks
July 30, 2002

NEW YORK (PRNewswire) -- LIFETIME Television won the July primetime ratings race for basic cable with a 2.0 household rating (1,694,000 homes) and widens its lead in the year-to-date race by a full three tenth lead with a 2.1 household rating. July marks Lifetime's 7th consecutive month at the top spot in primetime household ratings among all basic cable while also maintaining "Television for Women's" incredible winning streak of 26 out of 30 weeks at #1 for the year thus far.

In addition to winning primetime households every month of this year, Lifetime continued to dominate in July among the key female demographics, placing #1 among Women 18+, W18-49, W25-54 and Working Women for all basic cable networks in primetime and total day. In total day, LIFETIME earned a 1.2 household rating (1,029,000 homes) and placed first among Adults 18-49.

"In the most competitive summer in recent memory, we're very encouraged by the way Lifetime viewers have embraced our new drama For the People," said Tim Brooks, Senior Vice President, Research, Lifetime Entertainment Services. "It debuted with an even stronger rating than our last summer premiere, Strong Medicine, which earned a 2.3 for its premiere in July 2000, and has gone on to become a major hit."

Contributing to the Network's primetime success in July were the outstanding performance of Lifetime's new Sunday original drama premiere, "For the People," the new season premiere of "Strong Medicine" and a new episode of "The Division" on July 21 which propelled Lifetime to win the night among households on basic cable. Despite fierce competition for female viewers by both basic and premium cable networks, the premiere of "For the People" garnered a 2.5 household rating (2,093,000 homes) with nearly 3 million viewers. Launching its third season, the season premiere of "Strong Medicine" delivered a 2.8 household rating (2,418,000 homes), a 22% increase over last season's average, while a new episode of "The Division" featuring Nancy McKeon, who plays Inspector Jinny Exstead on the series, earned a solid 2.4 household rating for her television directorial debut.

Also fueling the monthly win was the Lifetime Original Movie "Crossing the Line" -- the timely drama about what happens when overly competitive parents erupt at a school sporting event and become violent -- scored a 3.5 household rating (3,003,000 homes) for its premiere on Monday, July 15th and was seen by over 4 million viewers. With over 100 original movies under its belt, Lifetime's "Crossing the Line" ranks among the top 10 original movies on basic cable this year. In fact, all six of Lifetime's original movies of 2002 rank among the top 10 in basic cable
