NEW YORK (PRNewswire) -- For nearly a decade, Lifetime Television has partnered with advocates around the country to provide women with up-to-date information about breast cancer with its award-winning public affairs campaign, "Our Lifetime Commitment: Stop Breast Cancer For Life." As part of this year's campaign, the network, along with affiliates and advocacy organizations across the country, will come together to salute breast cancer survivors and activists devoted to putting an end to this devastating disease.
Lifetime will select over a dozen Breast Cancer Heroes in recognition for their ongoing commitment to fight the battle against breast cancer through nominations from advocacy organizations and seven affiliate partners. Each selected hero and one guest will be sent to the October 10th taping of the third annual Women Rock! Girls & Guitars -- Lifetime's star-studded concert for breast cancer awareness. This year's concert will again feature some of the best talent in women's music today. Additionally, Lifetime will create a special salute to each of these heroes by posting their stories and photos at http://www.lifetimetv.com and by recognizing them at Women Rock!
Currently, nominations are being accepted from affiliates and advocacy organizations encouraging survivors to submit a 200-word description of their special commitment to fighting breast cancer. Once nominations are received, the network will take on the challenging task of selecting heroes from countless nominees with their own heroic stories.
With affiliate participation increasing significantly this year, the 2002 salute to breast cancer heroes promises to be bigger and better. The following affiliates are submitting nominations for this year's program: Insight Communications, AT&T Broadband, Time Warner Cable, Comcast Cable Communications, Communications, Charter Communications, and Echostar.
"The overwhelming response from our affiliates for this year's Breast Cancer Heroes shows the cable community's commitment to getting more information about this deadly disease to the public and recognizing those heroes who have worked tirelessly for this cause," said Louise Henry Bryson, Executive VP, Distribution and Business Development.
Throughout October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Lifetime will air original programming to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection of this disease that claims the life of a woman in America every thirteen minutes.
