Liberty Square / New Orleans Square Question

I was wondering out of curiosity if anyone knows why we have a Liberty Square and DL has New Orleans Square? Like is there a real meaning to why they are two different things??

Liberty Square is inspired by a small land that was "conceived" originally for Disneyland, called Liberty Street/Edison Square. They were to be an extension of Main Street, but they never came to fruition. Not exactly sure why.

I had always heard that the New Orleans Square concept was nixed for WDW due to Florida's already relatively close proximity to Louisiana compared to California. (Thereby less of an "exotic"/interesting destination for those east of the Mississippi River.)

Also, the upcoming bicentennial is commonly cited as a reason for Liberty Square making the cut.

A New Orleans section was also proposed for the Village Marketplace (now Disney Springs) to go along with the riverboat.
