We are leaving tomorrow afternoon for the happiest place on earth and I have a couple of questions.

1.) With the refillable mugs can you still use the old ones.

2.) How busy/crowded have the parks been in the past couple of days/weeks.

3.) Which attractions are closed down for the next two weeks.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

For updated details, you may wish to call (407) WDW-MAGIC (939-6244)†, just prior to your visit. Dates of refurbishment are subject to change without notice.

This is from The official Disney site regarding closed attractions. I know there are some web sites with this info on it as well, but not sure what they are. Hope this helps.:)

I just got back yesterday......

1.) I noticed that at the Contemporary, Polynesian and Port Orleans that they are the same mugs as last August.

2.) I was there July 29th to August 12th, the parks were ridiculously mobbed, almost like Christmas, LONG Lines, Haunted Mansion was 60 minutes, Test Track was 75 mins at 9:15 AM..........I think it may have been because of the Bucs training camp????

3.) CoP and Timekeeper were open, I only went to Epcot and MK, didn't see any closed attractions.

Not to destroy your argument or anything, but I was at Disney from August 7 thru 12th, and the parks were not very full at all. Magic Kingdom is always packed...just because it's the Magic Kingdom, but the other four parks had shorter lines than I saw in February. During the afternoon, most of the E-Rides had waits around forty minutes, which is VERY short for the summer--just get Fastpasses. You do have the weather to look forward to. I had heard it was just MISERABLE in Florida during the summer...but I loved it! I'm ready to move there after college!

I understand......

I only went that one day, and it was a Monday(8/6), I don't know what was up, but it was way too crowded. I mean shoulder to shoulder walking........I'm not trying to deflate anyone, but I was royally ed when it seemed like I was walking around MK on December 25.

For that day, I got on Test Track(FP), Figment, Hall of Presidents and Space Mountain(FP), I threw in the towel when I saw the PoC line out into the stroller parking, I totally wasted a day on my hopper pass.....

And yes Kyle is right, Fastpass everything you can!

Expect typical lines for the end of summer at Disney--long, hot and humid! I was there last week--MK is always the most crowded, especially on Monday, but the other parks weren't too bad. Lines on the more popular rides at them.

Florida Schools are in session now

The crowds go down quite a bit this week because the local schools are back in session.

We're leaving Friday. We go the middle weeks of August every year because Florida schools are already in session so it's a)cheaper because we're vacation club members and the points we need to use are lesser and b)less crowded. We've never had extremely bad lines. The Disneyana convention is earlier this year, so if you'll still be there the weekend of Aug. 23-25 it might pick up some. I'm hoping the convention attendees will be so busy with the convention they won't spend time in the parks.

I'm taking my Wilderness Lodge mug with me -- several people told me it's no problem to use them.

Right now, the only attraction I know of that's closed for refurbishment is Maelstrom. There's a variety of smaller projects being done at Epcot WS, but I'm pretty sure everything else there is opened. The Crystal Palace restaurant in MK is also closed for refurbishment, but they're doing Pooh character meals at Tony's Town Square instead. And I advise going to the Magic Kingdom before August 18th, as there putting a crane in next to the castle to paint the roof.

everyone have a great time. we just got back thursday. parks seemed pack to us most rides were at 45 to 60 minute waits in all parks. from what the CM's told me that it isn't as packed as it was this time last year. it only rained a day and a half that we were down there, just enough to cool everything off. have a great trip.

We were there July 29 - Aug 2 and I thought the parks were not crowded at all. Here is how we did it:
Monday - Epcot - empty
Tuesday - MGM - average crowd
Wednesday - AK - little busy but park has bad layout
Thurdsday - MK - empty
Friday - MK - Busy

We practically walked on everything at Epcot except TT, that had a big line. On Thursday the 1st, we walked on every Fantasyland Ride. We only FP Space Mountain and I think that line was only about 20 minutes. Waited about 10 minutes for Haunted Mansion, and about 15 minutes for Jungle Cruise. Friday was busy, but we fast passed everything we wanted. What was nice for my two small kids was the character area in Toon Land was empty. We were able to walk right into see the characters on both Thursday and Friday.

I don't think POR and FQ were even at half capacity.

I know I've read it somewhere, maybe here, that the mugs are for length of stay, not forever, but Disney tends to look the other way and lets people use the onld mugs.

I'll try to find the thread, I think it was a really long drawn out argument over the costs and profits of Disney versus the free soda thing. :)

Edit...found it:

I hate to be a "doubting thomas", but I can't bring myself to believe that the parks are empty in the middle of summer. From what I have read attendance is down 5-10% from last year. That translates into a lot of lost $$$ for Disney, but only means waiting in a 55 min line instead of a 60min line.

Not empty, just more "regular."

Regular days: The rides with the longest waits tend to cycle, one will go down, another will go up, and if you can time it right, you wont wait nearly as long as you could have that day for either of them.

The days I went to the parks they really were not crowded at all. At Epcot on Monday July 29, the only attraction that had a big line was test track. We did not ride body wars but it was obvious there was no line. We walked on SE and the imagination ride. The boat ride in the land had a 10 minute wait and the Living seas had very few people. MGM the next day had a moderate crowd. Both ToT and RnR had about 40 minute lines but we FP both of those. We walked right into Muppets and Playhouse Disney. Sci-Fi for lunch was only half full. AK was busy on Wednesday, but the poor way that park is layed out gives an illusion to being busy. The waits for the safari ride and dinosaur were only about 15 minutes. On Thursday at MK, the park was empty in the morning. I took a picture of tomorrowland at 9:30 AM and there was hardly a soul in sight. We walked on the race car ride, did SM, and then walked on every ride in Fantasyland, even Pooh. There were no lines at 11:30 for the characters in Toon Town. HM had a 5 minute wait. The park was busier in the evening when we went back, but not too busy. Friday at MK was busy, but we FP when we could. PoR and FQ were barely half full. I expected everything to be busier, but was happy it wasn't.
