LCD screen question

I have a Nikon Coolpix 5900 which I love.Lately though the LCD screen has developed some seemingly dead pixels. It doesn't effect the photos at all, but I was wondering what would cause this, and is there anything I can do to fix it or prevent it from happening again? Thanks!

General abuse and use of the camera will cause that. NOt much you can do to prevent it.
I think I figured it out.I always store the camera in my camera bag, but I started putting my mini-tripod in the same compartment with it, and I think that perhaps that did it. Sound about right?

Assuming the pixels weren't dead when you first go the camera then... A if the pixels are clumped together they were most likely killed by something knocking against the camera and your lucky it didn't break the screen. B. if its just one pixel and the ones around it are fine, then it wasn't anything you did the pixel just died.

The fact is pixels can simply die but it would be very rare that they would die in a clump, conversely if you hit the screen hard enough to kill a pixel the odds are it will not simply kill one pixels but several.

If its death by injury then they are simply gone. If its death by old age you can sometimes (not always) but sometimes bring it back to life. To attempt resurection gently very gently use your finger nail to put a slight amount of pressure on the dead pixel and rub back and forth - no to hard or you'll kill pixels near the already dead one. But this has worked on LCD screen that were soft surfaced... you may or may not be able to as lots of camera have such a hard plastic cover on the LCD that it just isn't possible... this usually only applies to computer or TV LCDs.

Thanks for the advise. I did some reading up about it last night too. It's not one, but a clump, and I'm pretty sure that this happened because of the tripod banging against it. My case is well padded, and I'm pretty careful about it. I only recently started carrying the tripod in that part of the case, and it was not too long after that that the pixel problem occured. It hasn't effected the pictures in any way.
