Law of the Preservation of FP Machines

Apparently, FP machines can be neither created nor destroyed. There always seem to be old, underutilized ones ripped out when new ones are needed. With the ITTBAB machines gone, per Kevin Yee's reporting, should we assume these are for Mermaid? Or will the new Dumbo setup involve getting a ticket from a FP machine without necessarily being connected to the rest of the FP system?

I do not know about the reusing of the FP machines but I would think that it would be the case and that the "shell" of the machines can be refurbed for the new atttractions. As for the New Dumbo, I read on WDWMagic that they will use a "card" system with colors and group numbers. Maybe 20 #1s and 20 #2s, etc... each number would be a different color and you get a card upon entering and can mill around and explore the tent area then when your card color and number are called then you proceed to the ride loading area. But that system was mentioned very early on in the development of the Dumbo Circus area of NewFantasyland. It may have been changed by now.

I noticed that the It's Tough to be a Bug Machines seeed to have been removed, with only two left when I was there on 1/6 (but at least 4 were there and in use on 12/30).

I would also guess that the machines at Stitch's Great Escape, Indiana Jones, and Lights Motors Action could also get re-used as part of Fantasyland or other future expansion.

stitch machines are just shells except one....used for parts

They had one active in 2010 at all of the locations except Indiana Jones for the Give a Day Get a day promotion. I have Fastpasses from Stitch and Lights Motors Action from 2010. They were also giving out larger slips of paper as "Fastpasses" for Lights Motors Action last week. They were about the size of a piece of paper that you would find on a page a day calendar and it was to get people to go to the earlier show. You didn't need your park ticket to acquire these.

They have done that for LMA from time to time for at least 3 years during busy times, to try to make sure the first show of the day gets a bigger crowd when they are pretty sure the later shows will be turning people away. When they do it, they typically hand them out in bunches outside the main entrance to the park.

Right, but PhilharMagic rarely used Fastpass, and seems to be doing fine with the surprise Fastpasses at Pooh and Pan - Those machines at PhilharMagic that are currently being used for Pooh can be moved to the new Pooh fastpass location if need be and they can just expand the stroller parking into that area.

Yep! Because 4 of the FP machines that were at Winnie the Pooh's old FP location are now being utilized for the Town Square Theater FP Distribution but are painted solid white.

I personally still think that some FP need to be removed to increase line flow. Peter Pan and Toy Story Mania are my two big examples.

And Buzz.... :sohappy:

Absolutely not. Especially at Peter Pan's Flight. Peter Pan's Flight is an absolutely perfect Fastpass attraction. Peter Pan's Flight works as a Fastpass attraction because there are 6 other legit Fastpass attractions in that park, with at least Space Mountain regularly having a comparable demand. The problem that faces Toy Story Mania isn't the presence of Fastpass, it's that it's far and away the highest demand Fastpass attraction in that park.

Fastpass works, and really only needs a few tweeks.

Magic Kingdom: It needs to be added to Tomorrowland Speedway and officially removed from PhilharMagic and Stitch's Great Escape. It can also be a seasonal addition to Haunted Mansion, It's A Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean, but that's less of an issue

Epcot: It's probably not needed at Living with the Land, but they run that pretty much seasonally anyway. I would like to see it added to Epcot Character Spot, but it seems that throughput there isn't as effecient as it is in Town Square Theater

Hollywood Studios: I'd like to see Toy Story Mania Fastpasses have the "time when you can get a new Fastpass" bumped out to 3 hours. This will prevent more people from getting two Fastpasses for that attraction. It could be added to Great Movie Ride, but I think a refurb is necessary before the demand is there. The biggest problem is that the park needs another low-average capacity family attraction (1000-1400 guests per hour) that has Fastpass and no height requirement. This will help the demand for the Toy Story Fastpasses. They can also officially remove the machines at Indiana Jones, Lights Motors Action and Little Mermaid (which are currently seasonal). I would also like to see a "Show Pass" for Fantasmic, similar to World of Color

Animal Kingdom: They made the change I've been asking for, and that's running Fastpass at Primeval Whirl. I don't believe it's even seasonal, I believe they have it running every day. It looks like the It's Tough to be a Bug machines are either completely removed, or they have removed all but 2. I like the idea of show passes in this park, but on most days it's unnecessary. They ran Fastpass for Nemo and Lion King during Christmas-New Years week, but not Flights of Wonder - they did however add a 4:45 show of Flights of Wonder which is good to see, I just wish it was permanent.

I'm sorry; please explain the surprise Fastpasses....this thread is the first I've heard of them.

A Surprise Fastpass is a second Fastpass you get for an attraction you're not currently getting a Fastpass for. It's generally done by Disney when they want to try and boost attendance for an attraction. For example, you might go to Peter Pan's Flight to get a Peter Pan Fastpass, and after the Peter Pan Fastpass prints, a second "Surprise Fastpass" prints immediately afterwards for Mickey's Philharmagic.

I agree, the standby lines creep along horribly because of this, and it makes the wait time signs incorrect. Whatever the wait time is you can almost double it because the lines do not move. Its going to make mermaid the same way when it opens.

Philhar officially has no more Fastpass. It only has surprise Fastpass.
... because the machines are hosting the Pooh FP. Those machines got used for actual Philharmagic FP's as often as the Stitch ones do, but SGE still counts as a "Fastpass" attraction, doesn't it? I assume they would do the same thing if Pooh leaves as long as the machines are still physically present at Philharmagic.

I've found them exceedingly rare, I don't think they do them consistently. I think I may have gotten one or two, ever. And I've gotten many 100's of FP over the years.

The other thing with them is that sometimes one member of the party gets one and the other doesn't, which can be problematic.

Not complaining about them, LOL - just sharing what I know. :)
