Pioneering animator Ward Kimball, who helped modernize Mickey Mouse's look in 1938 and created the character Jiminy Cricket for the Disney classic "Pinocchio," died Monday at age 88.
Ward Kimball, one of Walt Disney's legendary "Nine Old Men", was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 4, 1914. At the young age of 20, Ward joined the Walt Disney Studios and spent the next 38 years drawing, animating and directing for Disney.
Some of the most memorable characters that Ward brought to life include Jiminy Cricket in "Pinocchio", Tweedledee and Tweedledum in "Alice in Wonderland" and Lucifer in "Cinderella". During his career, Ward directed two Academy Award winning short subject films, directed films for television and a live-action musical. Ward Kimball retired from Disney in 1972.
A fan of jazz and trains, Ward started the Dixieland jazz band "Firehouse Five plus Two" and operates a full size locomotive on his ranch - Grizzly Flats.
In 1989, Ward Kimball was named a Disney Legend.

Tom Hanks would be willing to saddle up for a Toy Story 3.
Hanks says voicing Woody the cowboy doll is one of his favorite assignments.
"Though I haven't heard of any yet, if there are plans for a Toy Story 3, I'd be more than willing to talk to the folks at Pixar and Disney about being part of it," says Hanks, whose gangster film Road to Perdition opens Friday.
Hanks is in talks to star in Terminal. He'd play a man who has to live in a U.S. airport because his country ceased to exist during his flight there.
This news comes just weeks after Tim Allen made a similar statement. It seems that all we need is a green light and we could have another great film.

You Thought it would NEVER Happen . . .
The Mousehole started back in 1994 and our first issue's top story (which was in print, not over the internet in any form) featured an article about an incredible new animated series by Disney known as "Gargoyles". This series grew into an amazing show that spanned 3 seasons (the third season simply called "The Goliath Chronicles") and was Disney's first dramatic animated series. It featured a great voice cast made up mainly of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" actors and in my book is still considered the best animated TV show ever made. (I know, I'll catch some slack there.)
Well, every year, there is a convention called "The Gathering" where fans of the series get together and discuss everything Gargoyles. (Think of it as a "Star Trek" convention for an animated series) Special guests arrive as well such as the voice actors from the series, the animators from the series or even the creators and writers of the series. Well, this year, Greg Weisman (Director of Series Development and Series Producer) arrived with news. A deal was just finalized to release Gargoyles DVDs in 2003!!! Now for those of you who are fans, there is a slight downside to this. There will be just one DVD at first, but if it is successful there will be more. By the sounds of it, this could be a "best of" release. Same way Spider-Man: Ultimate Villain Showdown was released. The first five episodes: "The Awakening," could also be a candidate for this release.
