Disney has done a pretty good job finding the right mix between thrill rides and family rides. I am sure they continue to think long and hard about new rides and rehabs.
Universal thought they had a leg up on Disney when they created IoA, but I have been told that IoA has been a drain on Universal since the opening. My understanding is that many of the recent job cuts, especially the significant cuts in management, were planned during early summer, because IoA has been considered a financial failiure. The blame has been placed on poor marketing, but I think that Universal simply did not realize that people do not think of central Florida as a thrill ride destination. I am sure with time, this will turn around. New concepts take time to gain acceptance.
Disney can be blamed for this I suppose. People come to central Florida expecting high quality, family entertainment. Disney has been a significant leader in that area.
