Late Night DME

Just wondering if anyone has comments about taking the DME after midnight. I found a relatively cheap airfare for our trip for the FWF in October, but it arrives at 12:05 a.m. on a Tuesday morning. I know the luggage drop off service isn't available then, but has anyone else had any experience with this? Is there only one bus operating then? And does it then make the rounds to all the resorts? We'd be at POP. If it takes 2 hours to get to POP it might not be worth it. Even factoring in the "extra" motel night the airfare would be worth it. Thank you for any advice!

DME will take you. Depending on how any people are arriving around the same time they may use a van instead of a bus, but they won't make you wait two hours.

AFAIK they are contractually obligated to not go to more than four resorts on a single run, regardless the time of day or night.

The one thing that late-night arrivals *must* make sure of is that DME has their correct flight info.

The DME desk is generally scheduled to close at about 11pm each day, but if they know they have Guests coming in on one of the few flights scheduled after that (or if an earlier flight is delayed until after 11) they keep a skeleton crew on-duty to handle those arrivals.

If they don't have your flight info, they won't know you're coming and it's possible that you'd arrive to find a closed DME desk.

I agree with everything the above posters mentioned. One thing I want to add.... grab something to eat at the airport if you can. When you arrive at the resort I would expect much to be open and if you are hungry, it is terrible going to bed without finding something to eat.

We arrived at the Boardwalk Villas once at about 1:30am due to delayed flight. We had missed supper due to flying and pretty much every quick place to grab a bite to eat was closed. I think we ended up getting food out of a vending machine. As excited as we were to get to the hotel and get some sleep, we wish we would have grabbed somethng to eat at the airport.

We just got back Sunday from our trip. We were a late arrival. We landed around 11:45 pm and then had to pick up our luggage before going to ME. There were at least 2 buses waiting. Be prepared to stop at more than 1 resort though. We were headed to Pop Century. Our bus was going to Art of Animation first, then Pop Century, then both stops at AKL. We had a 7 am return flight. Being considered an international flight (we're Canadian), our bus pickup time was 2:55 am. There were 13 people from Pop getting on the bus and there were already 4 people on board. As long as they have your flights, you'll be fine.

One of the guests on our bus mentioned she was calling Domino's for a Pizza when she got to her room. There was nothing open at the airport when we arrived and Everything Pop was closed for the night.

We had a late flight one year, landed around 11:30 and we were the first ones on the bus. I think we waited about an hour before we left the airport. This past March our flight was delayed 7 hours and we landed around 10:30, picked up our luggage, got on the bus we only waited a few minutes. Got to CR/BLT 11:55. When catching the bus late at night it's one of those "it depends" situations.

We will be arriving at the airport at 930pm on 6/14. Our reservation is for the 6/15. When you arrived at the resort and checked in, did they give you your room right away or did they make you wait til check in time at 3 pm. My son and I choose to have a flight come in the night before to have a jump start on the next day! He is back from basic training and with my dad passing away in March I (we) needed another Disney vacation!!!

Call WDW and have your estimated arrival time noted on your reservation and that you would like your room to be ready when you arrive. (You can also do this with online check-in.) This does not guarantee your room will be ready, however, and depending on occupancy you may have to wait to get into your room after 3 pm.

If your room is not available when you check in, you can stow your luggage with Bell Services and go explore the parks.

I presume you'll be staying at the airport on your arrival night? DME won't transport you until your actual checkin day.

You also won't want to use the yellow DME luggage tags on your checked bags. It can confuse the system if they show up in Orlando a day before the system is expecting them to, and there's a chance they could get stuck in limbo when you *do* actually head to your resort.

Actually by the time we get something to eat at the airport and pick up our luggage because I was told not to use the yellow tags it will be after midnight and we can board DME And arrive at the resort on our arrival day 6/15 just shortly thereafter, maybe around 1-2 am.

You may run into problems with your plan... First off, they go by "operating days" when handling DME. 12:30am on the 15th is still considered to be part of the 14th. They may or may not transport you.

Second, if your reservation starts on the 15th, the resort will not let you check in until 7am on the 15th. There's also no guarantee that there will be a room ready at 7am. If you want access to a room at 1am on the 15th, you'll have to book the night of the 14th.

I called DME and they said they would transport us to our hotel. If they hotel does not have our room ready, no big deal, we are at Disney irregardless. If by chance they do have it ready, well then added bonus for us!!! I've had a really crappy year so far, so I really don't care how things pan out, I'll be at Disney getting away for just a little bit!!!
