Late August Flights

We are starting to get the itch to book our next trip. We were thinking the end of August 2014 so we wouldn't have to pull the kiddos out of school. I was thinking Friday 8/22 to Saturday 8/30 (which is right in the middle of Labor Day weekend). For those of you who have flown that weekend, should I expect to pay an arm and a leg for flights and should I think about different dates? We usually check out Delta because we have some SkyMiles and won't be able to check those flights until early next month

I know AirTran is one way for under 300 a piece normally at that time of year!!

We went the week going into labor day a few years back and the flights were pretty cheap. We flew AirTran, but we left the Tuesday after Labor Day. I know flight leaving the Sunday of Labor Day weekend were alot more expensive.

I flew down once at the end of August to drop the ManChild off for the college program. Our airfare was cheap however like gasoline, airfare has its ups and downs depending on what the heck is going on in the country and world. This year air has just seemed higher than most.

We manage to book our flights around that week for under 160 each. but we also flew out of a small local airport then back to a major airport on two separate airlines.

We did this out of Newark last year and paid under $300 per person. This was booking the first flight out and the late flight home, the most expensive option at the time.

Thanks everyone. I'll keep watching them - hope they are not too outrageous. I think I'm a bit spoiled because we got tickets for $30 last year using our miles.
