Late April Crowds

How are the crowds in late April? I'll be visiting April 25th to May 3rd. I'm hearing that the crowds during that time are pretty much light and the weather is good.

I think this changes quite a bit from year to year depending on how the Spring Breaks change.

I usually look on touringplans.com for a rough idea and go from there.

For what it's worth, I went during Mid-April last year when many people said it would be busy - it was but no where near as bad as I had imagined it. Sure, there was a fairly big queue for everything but as long as your ready for that you will have a good time.

You might be ok that week. I believe that your chosen week and the following two week are the better times to be at Disney in the Spring.... anytime before that and you run the risk of a part of the country being on Spring Break or crammed in with Easter Holiday leftovers.

Being the second week after Easter, the crowds should be low. We have been the first week in May before and the crowds were low and the weather was great!!! Now that my daughter's in college, we are looking forward to our mid-May trip when it should be less crowded.:sohappy:

We were there during the last week of April in 2006 and 2007 and it was great. I would not say that the crowds were "light", but it is one of the better times of the year to go as far as crowds are concerned. We HATE crowds and refuse to go to WDW during peak times, and late April was great for us.

That particular week should be great. Usually, the second and third full weeks of April are very busy due to public school vacations around the country. I have been to the "World" during the aforementioned weeks
with Easter Sunday being the major factor for high or low attendance
numbers. You will have a great experience during your visit.:sohappy:

We went the last week in April 2008 and chose to go the same week you are this year since it worked out well. :sohappy: There was still some late Spring Break crowds but not intolerable. Weather was great - little rain, lot's of warm sunshine. Still bring jeans and/or light jacket/sweatshirt for evenings - not too chilly but I was comfy wearing jeans and tee or tank some evenings.

To quote TouringPlans.com:

Apr 25: 6
Apr 26: 6
Apr 27: 5
Apr 28: 5
Apr 29: 5
Apr 30: 6
May 1: 4
May 2: 7

The numbers are anticipated crowd levels on a scale of 1-10. If it says 10 (like on the 4th of July or Christmas), they'll close the parks because they're so crowded. If it says 1, the park is all yours.

5 and 6 are really good! The reason for the 7 on the 2nd is because it's a Saturday and all the locals come out of the woodwork to play in the parks.

The average daily low is 61, average is 72, high is 83. And, surprisingly, only about 6 days of rain in the month of April, with a total rainfall of 2-3 inches. Great weather!

You'll have a great time!

That sounds good! My birthday is actually Apr. 20, so that's a week after Easter. It's also on a Monday, so the crowds shouldn't be too bad.

You didn't list that day, but if those patterns hold in the crowd rankings, I should be ok. (Going to DHS)

April 20 is also a 6. It drops from 7's all the week before.

Don't forget to register your birthday and get your free day of admission or the alternate perks!!!!!

That sounds promising! we are going on 27th April-7th May and I'm even more excited now than I was before. We went one week earlier last year and it was brilliant, short queues and beautiful weather with lots of warm sun and no rain. Bring it on!! :sohappy:

I didn't see anyone post this, but the Cheerleading and Dance World Championships are the 25 - 27, 2009. The competition is actually held at both the Wide World of Sports, Epcot and Hollywood Studios so those 2 parks may be a bit crowded that weekend.

Hope that helps.

When we were at Disney last year during the same time as the competition I didn't notice too big of a crowd impact at Epcot. But I think we went to Epcot the Thursday just before the weekend and the teams were just arriving. What did affect us though were all the teams staying at All Star Sports. I can handle noise from having fun, but there was only so much I could take of giggling and cheering. And don't bother going to the pool b/c every chair will be taken up as they sun themselves for hours...Not sure if the teams will stay in the same place this year, but just forewarning anyone staying at the same resort. I'm happy we're saying at the Poly all week long and should avoid the cheer, dance, HS bands since they usually stay at the value resorts. Thanks for letting me vent...:p

Niki - are you taking any teams down this year? Pro Cheer has only 3 teams going to Worlds.

Missed you at Cheersport - hope your teams did well!!

Sorry for the thread drift!!

Sorry to bump this thread up again, but I just revisited the touringplans website, and the numbers seemed to have changed a lot!

http://www.touringplans.com/tp2/UG2_index.php?PageID=14

My birthday Apr. 20, for example, has shot up in rating from a 6 to a 9! I don't know why this would happen so suddenly. Especially because of the fact the day is a Monday and removed from the worst of Spring Break, I'm very surprised. I see from the calendar that it is two days after a Grad Night, but I don't think that would affect attendance much ether.

Likewise, this page now makes it look like the entire upcoming month will be very crowded, weekdays and weekends!

I saw this also and met it with a mix of skepticism, concern and surprise. We always go in early to mid-May and the crowds are never bad, except maybe a little bump around grad night weekend.

Does anyone have a clue what their logic would be for this estimation? I'm assuming they feel Disney's ongoing promotions will keep the parks full throughout the Spring. I hope they are wrong!
