Do they still have characters walking around on the streets or do you always have to go to a dinner or meet and greet venue to see them.
Thanks

Meet and greet areas are all the rage at WDW now. You can find certain characters at specific restaurants or you can find them at certain times of the day at designated areas of the parks. You can also waste a fast pass on the ones that you MUST see (usually Anna & Elsa).

Where would the designated areas be.
I know I am going to need a fp for Elsa and Anna but I was hoping to just see others while walking around.

Depends on which parks you are planning on going to. There is a big grouping of the princesses in Fantasyland, that's where Anna and Elsa will probably be depending on when you are going. Then there are Mickey and Minnie on Main St. MGM has lots of characters in front of the Great Movie Ride and several of the Pixar characters are near Toy Story Mania as well as the Animation building.

I'd check the guide maps before you go, they should specify where the meet and greet are at each park and I think they say which characters are there.

Why do you say that.
A shock for the better or worse.

Oh yeah, it's going to be better. When you went, there was only Magic Kingdom and Epcot. River Country too I guess. That's gone and there are two new water parks in its place. Plus two more theme parks. Lots more to do than 27 years ago. And yeah, while there are some changes to Magic Kingdom, it will be the same experience. The classics haven't changed much.

Oh by the way, enjoy Splash Mountain, that's a new one too.

Talk about Disney Withdrawal! Almost 30 years since you last visited Disney? Yeah, I would start reading travel guides just to get an overview of what's still there, what's not there, what moved, what changed, etc. Then, I would, absolutely, go through the discussion boards here and look through the Vacation Planning forums to see what some of the other members on here are doing.

I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but how long are you planning on staying? At a minimum, I would stay at least 7-9 days just to see it all, but pace yourself. Make sure you wear decent walking/running shoes and bring at least 3 pairs of good shoes with you so that way you're not killing the padding in your shoes. You will be doing ALOT of walking. Make sure you prop your feet up at night. This helped me and I noticed my feet weren't all that sore.

Also, you may want to do some "conditioning" before your trip - you may want to do some walking, stretching, etc, so your legs will be used to the constant walking and standing you'll be doing in the parks. My wife and I workout at the local gym (not saying you should go sign up for a gym membership) and we noticed that because of the treadmill and how much we walk on that (5-6 miles/day), walking at Disney wasn't nearly as bad.

Above all, have fun! :)

Cool, glad to hear you are headed back to WDW!

I was in the same situation as you, when I went last Spring Break (2013), and I last went back in 1986 or 1987.

The great thing is that the park is pretty much "still the same" with some new additions!

For me, it was as great as I remembered it to be!

I would definitely plan well ahead if you can to make the experience really great!
