Last minute cruises?

Last time I was at the Magic Kingdom, I took the "Keys to the Kingdom" behind-the-scenes tour. I liked it a lot and our guide was very personable. I asked her what kind of "Disney-specific" benefits she gets. One of the things she mentioned was that CMs can get discounted rooms on cruises if the ship is about to sail without being full. So she might get a call on Wed, asking if she wants to sail on Fri and it would only cost her $180 for the whole cruise.

Does anyone know if these last-minute fares are ever available to the general public for unfilled sailings? Just curious.

Just a follow-up, in case anybody's interested (and it doesn't look like anybody is. . . :) ). I called the cruise reservation number and asked the rep about it. She told me that it's very rare for the CMs to get these offers b/c the ships are almost always full. But when the offers do come through, the CMs don't actually get to reserve the room. What happens is the CM has to go to the port on the sailing day, and if it's still available, then they're allowed to claim it. But it's possible that it's already been filled. So it's not quite as good a deal as I thought.

But it's not available to the general public, in any case. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Thanks for the scoop Chuck!

Lots of other cruise lines offer these "last minute" deals, but that explains why I never see Disney Cruises on the "Bargain Boards"!!

Cast Members DO get good discounts on the cruises, though, per their regular discounted benefits, which is STILL a good savings!
