Land or World

My wife and I have been to the world three times over the last ten years. I was wondering if going to Disneyland would be a better experiece than a repeat trip to Florida. My question is what are the major differences. I have read through the rides in each park so I do know that there is a lot of overlap but are the versions very different? Also, does the Calif. park/parks have the same "magical" feel?

Absolutely Disneyland has the same Magical feel. It is, after all, the original. I have not been to DL since they opened DCA so can't speak to that.

If you have been to WDW several times and can afford DL I would say it would be a great trip. I think both resorts have wonderful things to offer. For our family right now though we can spend a week at WDW for what it would cost us for two days at DL (due to airfare to CA vs. driving to WDW) so we choose to be repeat WDW visitors!

But in the not too distant future I hope to swing a trip to DL.

I did DL & DCA over a couple days last summer and had a blast! It was really interesting to see what was different/the same between the parks... We stayed in a hotel right across the street (sandwiched between an IHOP & a Denny's :slurp: ) and had a great time!

I highly recommend it if just for a "different" experience :)

You're going to hear a lot of heartfelt, emotionally charged reasons that one park is better than another in the upcoming posts, so I'll try to remain objective.

"Disneyland is the original!" The park's aficionados will scream that as a reason that it's better than WDW's MK until they die. To be fair, Disneyland does boast many more attractions than the MK (WDW had multiple parks long before DCA was built); and the park's unique style of small, intimate, highly detailed theming still makes it the most charming park the Company owns. However, depending on when you go, be prepared to encounter huge crowds: that small, intimate setting also creates traffic headaches. If you've never been to DL but you've been to WDW several times, enjoy the unique attractions it offers. Indiana Jones, Alice in Wonderland, Roger Rabbit, and Pinnochio all inhabit attractions there that we don't have.

Other comparisons abound. WDW's MK is definitely more spacious and beautiful, with wider expanses of flowers and trees; DL is cramped. Most of the MK's attractions (Splash, BTMRR) are improved versions of their DL counterparts; but DL's PotC is much better than the smaller version down here, and they still have the original, much better Tiki Room, as well as Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (but the MK's version was better). DL also features more sit-down restaurants and has been completely refurbished for its 50th anniversary; but before the management change, DL was literally falling apart. DL also features areas not found in the MK, such as New Orleans Square, Critter Country, and a vastly superior ToonTown (unlike ours, their version was never intended to be temporary). Because they don't encounter Floridian sun and rain, DL's Fantasyland facades are much more beautiful than the MK's; yet when WDW was constructed, the MK's Fantasyland was better. And our Tomorrowland beats the pants off of theirs, regardless of whether or not they have a new Space Mountain. We still have the TTA, the CoP, and live bands. They have empty buildings, a half-built Innoventions, and some stupid Club Buzz thing (they are, however, getting their subs back).

In case you can't tell by the way I keep going back and forth, DL and the MK are simply two different parks. With its small structure and established vegetation, DL is more charming; and some of their rides (especially PotC) are better than ours; but the MK is large enough to feel like you're really somewhere else (DL, in contrast, is pretty much off the side of the road), and we don't have to cram everything into one park because WDW has four.

I like both of the Kingdoms for different reasons. WDW's MK is still my favorite, but that's personal opinion. If you've never been to DL, go! Especially with the 50th celebration, you won't regret it. DL is every bit as magical as the MK.

Just be prepared for how tiny their castle is. It's cute, but it's tiny.

I haven't made it to Disneyland yet but that's because I can't afford it right now. One of these days I will. Disneyland is often said to be more magical because it's a smaller park. Magic Kingdom has tons of open spaces and Disneyland just feels more intimate from what I've been told. They also have longer and better versions of Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribean, and they're getting the subs back so that's a plus.

Now the resort of Walt Disney World is much better than the Disneyland resort. WDW has has 4 parks, two water parks, DTD, golf courses galore, etc... DL doesn't have the room for that so you'll be hard pressed to make a week or so out of a vacation to Disneyland alone, however if it's in you to do you should do it at least once I believe. Any true fan of disney should see the park that walt built first if they can.

having been to both, I prefer WDW as a whole, mainly b/c it's bigger, more to do/see in general, it seems cleaner or something. I think Orlando is a better town to visit than Anaheim (that's a given :dazzle: ) But in Orlando u also have Universal and loads of waterparks in the area (Universal in Cali is like an hour from DL).

However, the Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland is a must. It may be my favorite ride ever.

Overall, I say go to DL, only b/c u haven't been there. Then u can decide for yourself on where to go next year!

I say WDW is much better but maybe I just don't like seeing a strip mall and fast food rest. while riding BTMRR. I think WDW being so secluded from everything else makes it much more magical. After all Walt Disney said his bigest mistake with Disneyland was not purchasing more land.

DL is still a great place and I am sure you would have a great vacation. I just prefer WDW over DL.

My favorite will always be Disney PLANET. What a great park! The Haunted Space Station, Cinderella Comet, Pirates of the Open Galaxy, Asteroid Residue Mountain, Space,Space.....okay, I'll stop. :king:

Anyway, I live, and have always lived in South Florida, so I grew up with WDW, so hands down, WDW will always be my fave (though I haven't yet made the pilgrimage to the LAND, I plan to in the next 2 years!)

DL has more special effects in their Jungle Cruise, but WDW features the temple scene and is both more lush and more secluded.
