Lack of Princess at DAK?

My two daughters (ages 6 & 10) & myself just returned from a nice Thanksgiving holiday at WDW...had a lovely time, more on the finer details to come!

While most of our observations were quite positive, one complaint is Animal Kingdom park and the lack of princesses/princess interaction which are easily found at MK and the other parks. (Minus Epcot, as we did not visit the park this engagement due to time restraints). But at DAK it was rather hard to come across much to delight my two little princesses. Granted I will say the place is quite beautiful, and this is an understatement. While talks of Avatar are certainly seeming to put the park back on the map with this planned major addition, it still will be lacking (imo) for entertainment options to delight little girls. (Trust me, my two little ones could care less of Avatar's characters).

I know this could be difficult considering the safari...trek into the wilds theme about the place, but could Disney quite possibly add certain aspects to delight those who come to the parks to mingle in the world of the princess. Pocahontas, sure, but other than that theme it seemed rather lacking.

Another side note: Crowds were good, but not as heavy as one may expect over Thanksgiving holiday. Once again, great vacation all around.

I would love to see a Sea World type area come to DAK and they could feature Ariel in a Myths of the Waters attraction. A Pocahontas darkride would be cool too. Other than that...if princesses come into AK too much, I'm afraid the theme will be ruined. Random animal experiences would be added like Cinderella's mice exhibit or Jasmine and Rajah's (spell check) tiger exhibit. I think princesses should be left to MK as their main home, with somw appearances in the other parks :)

There could be an argument for Pocahontas and even Jasmine at DAK but I don't see any "dressy" princesses fitting in there. They could always have Jane from Tarzan to appeal to the girls but she's definitely not a Disney "Princess".

Personally I kind of enjoy the fact that DAK is not all about pirates and princesses - it's about animals and nature. I would be happier with a greater variety of characters rather than seeing the same character in multiple parks anyway.

Jasmine could fit in the India section of the park and Pocahontas could surely fit. However, keep them out!

Agreeeeed!!!!!!! Disney World is NOT just about princesses! Keep them in MK and Epcot and leave the rest of the park alone. Lol
Actually, keep them in MK only... They really don't belong in any of the other parks... Even Epcot... But, a better case can be made for putting them in Epcot, in the country their story is representative of than DAK...

Blah! While not a raving fan of DAK start splapp'n princesses around it? Ahhh! Disney just dedicated the entire FLE to the Princesses and still not enough for the little girls or parents? I've raised a boy and a girl Disney. DD managed fine with the Princesses just at the MK and a stage show at MGM. Boys seem to survive without being delighted by something geared to them at every park. Children should be delighted with WDW as a big package and all it has to offer.

Try a good read Cinderella ate my Daughter. If nothing else I think you might take away some balance in how deeply little girls need or should be smothered in Princessland. I'm all for little girls and princesses but they need some distance too. As a parent of grown up children so do I. DD didn't become a Mathematician by having it beat into her head that she needs to find a Prince to rescue her for her to be whole. Blah!

Agreed. No more princesses. Not everything has to be catered specifically to young kids, let alone little girls. DAK is supposed to be very real and gritty, not an idealized fantasy world. Princesses do not belong there. Camp Minnie-Mickey barely even belongs, and may even be going away. To which I say, good riddance.

Oh god, no princesses in AK please! They don't fit, MK should honesty be the only place with fantasy characters. And EPCOT should only have realistic future tech and world culture. And DHS should only have Movie related attractions. And please please please AK should only have animals and environment attractions!

Please don't ruin what is currently on track to be one of the best Disney Parks in the world!

I think the spirit of Animal Kingdom really makes it hard to incorporate princess' into the park but that's not a bad thing. I think the princess' are best represented in Magic Kingdom and Epcot to a certain extent. Animal Kingdom's message is special enough without the princess' involved.

Princesses do not fit with the Animal theme. The reason they are easy to find at Magic Kingdom is because it is a 'Royal Fantasy Kingdom' where princesses belong. They do not belong in the wilderness lol

That was my first thought too; Princesses do not fit in with the Animal Kingdom theme.
It's like I never understood why Jimminy Cricket did (does?) a meet and greet at Rafiki's Planet Watch... stood next to Pocahontas... why?

Epcot does it brilliantly with the characters in their respective countries from which the story took place. We skipped Epcot this go-around due to only having 3 days to spend at the parks and decided to hold off until TT rejoins the lineup. But yes, the way they are placed around World Showcase without being obstructive to the pavillion(s) environment works well.

I suppose it is to each his/her own as far as the DAK factor goes. Me personally, I feel the princesses could be at the park without being obstructive to the ambience, but can understand why some would not want this.

MAYBE Ariel if they add some undersea animal type thing Ariel could fit in. That's about it
Look up Mermaid Lagoon at Tokyo DisneySea if you have never seen it. What an amazing land/section...completely emmersive. Most likely will not come to WDW after the opening of the Mermaid attraction at MK (not that we are complaining about it), but that would be something fitting at DAK. Glad to finally have a Mermaid dark ride regardless.
