LA Times Article - Bob Iger Interview About D23 Expo

The Los Angeles Times has a lengthy article about the D23 Expo and an interview with Bob Iger regarding D23. There's nothing earth shattering in the article, and its a perfect example of 20th century newspapers being a bit behind the curve on 21st century news, but the thought is nice.

It does bode well for D23 Expo, as it just sounds bigger and bigger as it gets closer. And it also sounds like it's something that will always happen in Anaheim, if it gets extended past its 2012 contract for the Anaheim Convention Center.

Thanks for posting TP!!!

I thought the same thing! (the part in bold below)

Like "Star Wars," Disney has a world-class array of toys and collectibles, and there will be 20,000 square feet at the expo devoted to merchandise new and old. A Disney Treasures exhibit will feature more than 100 rare items, among them artifacts such as Annette Funicello's sweater from "The Mickey Mouse Club" and Fess Parker's coonskin cap from "Davy Crockett." Iger said he was stunned during a warehouse tour of the pieces, especially a "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" prop of the Nautilus that he called "a jewel."

Iger said some components of D23 may eventually travel beyond Anaheim -- perhaps those vintage items, considering the success of the touring "Harry Potter" exhibit -- but overall the expo is viewed as an annual Anaheim tradition in the making

Im really hoping to make it to the Expo, it looks promising and filled with some great things, Can't wait to see what they pull out for the park info though it seems heavy on DCA which is a good thing IMO!

I'm going to play hookey and go to the Expo on Friday. I plan on staying at least a couple of hours, and if it's fun I will stay longer.

I'm not a D23 member, so I will just pay the 37 bucks to get in. If you aren't there manning a booth selling your collectibles, I can't imagine why you need to do this sort of thing for more than a day. But maybe I'm missing something. Regardless, I'm sure it will be fun for at least a few hours.

I have tickets for Friday and Saturday.. I can't wait!

TP2000 - did you check out the schedule for each day's activities? (at the bottom of the article). There's so many presentations to see - there's different ones each day. I'm looking forward to seeing the World of Color presentation, as well the Disney parks announcements. I'm thinking about getting tickets for Thursday as well, I really want to go to the Lion King Music panel as well as the Music of The Haunted Mansion and Vintage Disneyland.

Here's my thinking on the presentations: I'm not going to go to them, but will instead just watch them on Youtube when I get home. I have no doubt the usual websites will have full video coverage of any park-related executive presentation. If I just happen to stumble upon some presentation about to start and there are seats available, I might attend just for fun. Maybe I should check out the Jay Rasulo thing though?

Otherwise, I'm not going to try and plan my visit very much. My real interest is in the parks and the Imagineering exhibit, and most of the rest of the products/services that Disney offers and will be exhibited at the Expo are nice little add-ons. A lot of the consumer product stuff, ABC TV, or Disney Channel offerings don't really interest me at all.

I have no doubt the executive presentations will be great, but I'll just watch them on the Internet from the comfort of my own home. Maybe even with a cocktail!

This should be a very unique and fun experience for Disney fans of all interests!

you're right, the D23 expo will be widely covered by every Disney fansite - i'm sure there will be an overload of photo and video trip reports. though I do wonder if they will prohibit video recording at some of the presentations, especially those that involve video exhibits?
