Kudos to one Universal CM

I know I've posted about my disappointment from my vacation last week that included 4 days at US and IOA. Litterally, we've already decided to NEVER go back, even the kids (ages 4, 7, and 13) were disappointed.

I do have to tell the story of one CM though that was the shining star of the week. I never saw this CM's face, but I'm glad he was there. You see we were at IOA and finding there is a lot that a 4 year old can't do in that park, we were feeling pretty bad for my son. He's a big fan of Spider Man (and most other superheroes) so we decided to take him for a picture with Spidey. Spidey has a perminant meet and greet in the back of a store in Marval Land. Spidey walked over and greated us and immediately squatted down and started talking to my son. My son was grinning from ear to ear. In no hurry, he continues to talk and talk to him. Telling him how the best weapon the he or any other superhero has is their mind and how he was having trouble with this villian or that one. Even asking my son if he'd seen any of them. When another group walked up for pictures, I told Spidey that we should let him go and he said to hang back for a minute. He goes over and chats with the older group strikes a great pose for their picture and then comes back over to spend more time with us. I'm pretty blown away at this point and realized that maybe I shoulda recorded some of this. When all was done, we must have spent 20 minutes with Spidey, and my son is still talking about it a week later. As we walked away I glanced back to the store and Spidey had moved up to the window next to us (still inside) when I pointed him out to my son Spidey pointed to his eyes then to my son indicating that he was watching him. By this point I'm even grinning ear to ear. We continue to stroll along the side of the building and there's Spidey again crouched down watching. It was truely classic.

While I'm dissappointed that you didn't have a very good trip overall, I love the story! Who says Universal can't give young children magical experiences? :D

Let me say that she, as did I, enjoyed the rides themselves. She continually found herself disappointed with interactions with CM's, with inadaquacies in the express plus pass implementation, with leaving a park at the ungodly early hour of 6 PM everyday, with park operations being in "off season" mode making wait times insanely long despite visibly low crowd levels causing it to take almost 3 days in the park to participate in most attractions (In fact there are some that we never did get to experience). Plus, she is still a kid at heart if not in body and there just wasn't any magic for her.

There is something inherantly magical about any park after dark. We always plan WDW days to be in the parks on their late night. WDW always ends the day with something that "puts the icing on the cake" whether it is Wishes, Fantasmic, or Illuminations, there is always that exclamation point at the end to let you know it's OK to leave. At Universal, at 5:00 they actually start closing all of the stands (especially food) and if you are lucky enough to get off a ride at 6PM the only CM's you can find are standing at the exit waving bye.

Unfortunately it's business. Since it's the slow season, they know the park won't be making much money, so they try and cut costs anywhere they can. In the summer, spring break and holidays seasons, the parks are open 9-10 and everything stays open til close, and fireworks are in the Studios.

Depending on what days you were there, Magic Kingdom would have closed at 7 and Animal Kingdom always closes at 5.

I understand that, but when AK closes, I just hop over to Epcot and Every week there is, at least, one day that MK is open late.

My eldest son loved the meet with spiderman when we were there, Spidey was great. Did you get to meet Donkey over in US? my daughter had a cracking meet with him, very funny indeed.
