Our day @disneyland . First a quick shout out to @themagicalmillennial_ - who covers Disneyland food and beverage on the daily - and who, like me, recognizes the genius of the Boyzen Apple Freeze. Kids and dad loved the rides, and I appreciate there are still small touches of the Disney magic focusing on the art and craft that built the company and the parks to begin with. This is the first time in a very long time that I have been to the park as a regular patron. No TV crew nor live broadcast to generate any special treatment. So here is my take for good or for ill. The rides are great. We did the trio of “Star Wars” rides and that “Rise of the Resistance” is especially remarkable. We also enjoyed the Grizzly River Rapids, Soaring Over The World, Mission Breakout, It’s A Small World, and a few others. But, and this I think is important, three of the rides we went on, all had maintenance breakdowns while we were in line. Both Radiator Springs Racers and Matterhorn Bobsleds were broken down for the whole day. Among all the recent layoffs did they send too many repair people home? Now how did we manage to get on so many rides on a rather crowded Friday. We purchased that Genie+ pass, for $25 bucks apiece, and because the “Rise” line was so formidable, I paid another $25 for the “Lightning Lane.” I appreciate the time savings - but also felt my pocket was really picked and I recognize that most people can’t keep unloading 25 dollars willy-nilly. So is the park in danger of becoming prohibitively expensive? That horse may have already left the barn. One other gripe - to “manage” Disneyland in 2023 - you really need your smartphone, maybe too much. I think it is a shame that I spent so much time in the ‘Happiest Place On Earth’ doing what I do in less happy environments - looking at my phone screen. Also, you “need” to use your phone so much you may well run out of charge. Bring an extra battery. Even with all of the above, if I had a chance to spend another day with the kids at Disneyland, I would grab it.
