I love Kona for lunch only. Dinner has been lacking and I haven't gone back. Skipper Canteen is a little too adventurous for us so we've never been. I would say it depends on your palate, that probably doesn't help much, but I also agree with all that @Tiggerish said above!enjoy!
Kona is my MK breakfast of choice. The Tonga Toast and the macadamia/pineapple pancakes are to die for, along with the Kona French Press coffee.
You might look at Ohana for dinner, however. I had the skewers and loved them. Just depends on your tastes. I also love the Spirit of Aloha dinner show, BUT I advise against doing it on a MK night. You'll miss too much time in the park.
Had dinner there in early August and had a great server. You can tell he was "testing" the waters with my wife and I to see how far he could push the skipper routine, and once he saw we were all in he was a blast.
Well that's just mean! lol. what a mind trickHe asked me if I wanted a FastPass to that night's fireworks. When I said that I did, he threw a straw at me. I didn't get it then, and still don't.
I had the same experience. My waiter dropped a couple of funnys, and when he saw that I responded well to that we had a great time. He did one thing, though, that still baffles me. He asked me if I wanted a FastPass to that night's fireworks. When I said that I did, he threw a straw at me. I didn't get it then, and still don't. But overall it was a fun lunch!
Mmmmm - that bread with the honey butter - YUMMMM!
Its not honey butter. Its a fenugreek honey - no butter involved and its very very sweet.
We had dinner at both restaurants in August and I can say you can't go wrong with any of them.
Kona has a menu with Asian touches and DW considered it the best restaurant we visited in this trip. I had the ahi tuna and it was excellent. The server was very good and really patient, since I had to translate everything back and forth for my family. He even made sure I knew that the tuna was prepared rare, but that wasn't a problem, since it was exactly what I wanted.
Skipper Canteen has a more diverse menu, with African and South American touches, and a nicer atmosphere. We were seated at the S.E.A. room, I had the grilled steak and the fried yuca planks were perfect. The shu mai was also very good. Just one caveat, however. They have two "exotic" soda flavors in the menu, one being Kuat guarana soda from Brazil, a local brand made by Coca-Cola. As a Brazilian who grew up drinking guarana soda I have to ask: please don't have it. There are many other brands better than Kuat for you to try and I don't want to ruin your experience with our local flavors.
