Sydney International Airport to Dallas

Let's start this travel journal. We are Rachel 26 and Nathan 21. We are brother and sister. We come from Sydney, Australia.

Our Grandma and our mother took us to Sydney International airport on the 23rd of February. We had to be there three hours before the flight. After getting our bags checked in we went into customs.

For some reason Nathan was a person randomly selected to have a pat down and full security check. Once he was cleared we were all set.

We went to go and have MacDonalds for lunch as we had time to kill. After our lunch we went to sit at our terminal and soon our plane arrived to the airport.

We were taking a flight from Sydney to Orlando via Dallas. The first flight would be a 17 hour total flight. Yep a loooooong way to come lol.

We flew to Dallas in a Qantas airplane. We had a beef rague with cookies and cream for dessert. For breakfast we had either a hot meal or cereal. I am allergic to bacon so I ordered the cereal while Nathan ordered the bacon.

Here are a few pictures from the flight:

Dallas to Orlando

While we were on the plane to Dallas Nathan had to fill in a form for customs. We had unopened packets of sultanas in our luggage so we ticked that we were declaring food items.

When we got off the plane we went to customs to get our passports stamped and our finger prints and photos taken.

When we told the security guard that we had packets of sultanas in our bag he had NO IDEA what we were talking about lol. We told him that it is like dried grapes and THEN he knew what we were talking about. "Ahh you mean raisins?" Guess Americans don't call them sultanas lol.

After passing through customs with a "have a wonderful time" we went to collect our luggage. We needed to collect it and then take it to the loading area for the bags that were continuing in journeys. Nathan had a panic attack and thought that he had lost his BLUE suitcase. However, he soon realized he was mistaken and had actually brought a black suitcase lol.

We had to clear security checks another two times. First with our suitcases and then a final time to get through to the boarding terminals. It was interesting taking our shoes off for the security check- in Australia we don't do that. When I went through the body search I got stopped and they checked out my knee for some unknown reason lol.

We then headed to MacDonalds and got the same menu that we had gotten at MacDonalds in Sydney. However, there was one slight difference. The sizing at the MacDonalds was HUGE!! The medium sized cup was the size of our large cup and the large cup for us was an extra large. I was so impressed by how big the chips packet and drink container were that I took some pictures and video lol.

Texas To Orlando Airport

Our plane boarded a few hours later. It would be a two and a half hour airplane ride for us to reach Orlando International Airport. On this flight we didn't get any food at all and we were only given one drink each.

Here are pictures from the flight from Texas to Orlando:

When we got to Orlando International airport we collected our luggage from baggage collection. Then we went to try and found our bus. When we got to the Disney Reception area they asked us if we would like to book our shuttle back to the airport on the day that we were going home. We said that we would so we booked our transportation. They gave us some stickers each and told us where to catch the bus from. We thanked them and went to where the bus was leaving from.

By this stage I was starting to get very emotional. I saw Mickey Mouse on one of the buses and couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Going to Disney had always been a lifelong dream of mine and it was finally about to come true.

Mix Up At Resort

It wasn't too long of a bus ride to our resort. We were staying at Pop Century resort. When we got there the driver helped us get our luggage off the bus and we went to the reception. At this point we had been traveling for 17 hours and all we wanted to do was go to sleep.

We were in for a surprise when we got to the resort. We asked them if we were staying in a room with two double beds. To our dismay we found out that they had put us in a room with a king sized bed. We told them we couldn't sleep in a room with a king sized bed as we were brother and sister. They did their best to try and find a different room for us with two doubles but they found out that they were fully booked and we would need to sleep in that room and change into another room the following day. They gave us all of our information and our room key cards which would act as pretty much everything- fastpass collection, dining plan food, park entrance, everything would be on that card.

We picked up park maps for each of the parks and a times schedule for the parks' opening hours for this week. Then we made our way to our room. Reception told us that they were going to send up a rollaway bed for us to use for the night. Nathan said that he would take it.

When we got to our room we had this waiting for us. We knew that we were in Disney :)

Interesting how some of the things that surprised you I thought, "No duh" about. Like, why wouldn't you take your shoes off? Sultanas...I have to remember that one. We do call them raisins here. I've never heard another word for them before. ;)
