Well, King Arthur, the new Touchstone film, opened in theaters today.
I took the time to see it earlier today. I was surprised by the crowds though--the theater it was played in was a fairly large one at the Muvico I go to, and it was more than half-filled. Either a lot of people just couldn't wait to see it, or a lot of people were bored and decided to see a movie.
I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. Fairly entertaining, I must say. (best performance award goes to the lovely Keira Knightley, of course.
) I have no clue about all of the stories of Arthur, so I couldn't tell you if it was historically correct. (I've read many reports stating it wasn't though)
Now....I enjoyed it, but how about the critics? The Orlando Sentinel gave it two stars and said it was horrible, as have a lot of other newspapers. My local paper gave it a B rating though.
It's going to have a tough time at the box office this weekend though--Spider-Man 2 is still hot, the hilarious-looking Anchorman is coming out, and the excellent Fahrenheit 9/11 is still playing to crowds. Also, is it just me, or has this film not been advertised much? Sure, there's posters around and a commerical on television once in a while, but nothing else. I think that is what will hurt its take-in at the box office.
For the weekend, I'll say third place and $23.5 million. This movie has no choice but to be either an Around the World in 80 Days, a Haunted Mansion, or a Pirates of the Caribbean. If it pulls another Alamo, I'll give up all hope for Disney at the box office this year. (with the exception of The Village--and we still have to see how the audiences reacts to it.)
