King Arthur

Well, King Arthur, the new Touchstone film, opened in theaters today.

I took the time to see it earlier today. I was surprised by the crowds though--the theater it was played in was a fairly large one at the Muvico I go to, and it was more than half-filled. Either a lot of people just couldn't wait to see it, or a lot of people were bored and decided to see a movie.

I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. Fairly entertaining, I must say. (best performance award goes to the lovely Keira Knightley, of course. :D ) I have no clue about all of the stories of Arthur, so I couldn't tell you if it was historically correct. (I've read many reports stating it wasn't though)

Now....I enjoyed it, but how about the critics? The Orlando Sentinel gave it two stars and said it was horrible, as have a lot of other newspapers. My local paper gave it a B rating though.

It's going to have a tough time at the box office this weekend though--Spider-Man 2 is still hot, the hilarious-looking Anchorman is coming out, and the excellent Fahrenheit 9/11 is still playing to crowds. Also, is it just me, or has this film not been advertised much? Sure, there's posters around and a commerical on television once in a while, but nothing else. I think that is what will hurt its take-in at the box office.

For the weekend, I'll say third place and $23.5 million. This movie has no choice but to be either an Around the World in 80 Days, a Haunted Mansion, or a Pirates of the Caribbean. If it pulls another Alamo, I'll give up all hope for Disney at the box office this year. (with the exception of The Village--and we still have to see how the audiences reacts to it.)

I saw it, too, and I'd give it a B+. Very entertaining, with tons of action and a good cast. All the actors, I thought, were excellent, perfect for the knights.

I thought Keira Knightley was just great. She has a fun character, who gets to get down and fight with the men, and she gets REALLY agressive.

There's one especially cool fight scene about halfway through the movie, but I won't spoil what it's about cause it's so fun to watch.

My theater was pretty crowded (it was an 8 pm-ish show), and everyone cheered at several parts, and seemed to laugh at all the jokes.

those are my thoughts . . . .

Great Movie. Thought it was well done. Made 15 Million and total of 23 not to great but very good for Disney this year this should touch close to 100 in the US and make back it's cost world wide. Now for the Village.

Ben....most of the time what was going on was that they were fighting!!!

Had to say that. We actually saw it and loved it. I guess it depends on your own personal taste. I like an epic battle and the good VS evil stories. I always have and always will. I needed a Kleenex towards the end, won't say why, but I never thought I would cry or get THAT into a movie such as this. I went in not knowing what to expect and walked out loving it. I give the movie an A-. The minus is for the blood. I know, I know, every battle has killing, it's the amount of blood shown that I thought was a little much especially for my soon to be teen boys. they loved the movie though too and were really getting into it. (I am sure to the dismay of those around us. Actually they would look and smile and a few asked the boys how they liked it on the way out.)

A $15 million first weekend isn't great for a film that has a $90 million budget (or at least from what I've heard). I highly doubt it'll come close to $100 million domestically, somewhere around what Home on the Range made is what I'm looking at now....but we'll just have to see how well the audiences react overseas, where movies of this sort usually do better business....Troy, for example, has only made $130 million here, but has grossed over $300 million overseas.
