Kilimajaro Safari

Hi from germany,
does anyone have experiences of what's the best time of the day for the Kilimajaro Safari? Is it better to do it first early in the morning ( more active animals then in the noon heat) or close to park closing? I am there in the first week of October.
I planed to go first to dinosaur to get fast past and then directly to KS. But in the map i see it's too far away. But when i first do KS maybe dinosaur is to crowded after that. What do you think? Do i have to expect crowds on weekdays during first October Week?

Thanks from germany and best wishes
Michael

We went late morning, around 11am.(this past Aug) The line wasn't very long just about 15 minutes. The animals were out and active. It was our first try at the safari and we had a great time.

I have always gone first thing in the morning and have seen alot of animals out and active. I do it again before I leave the park in the afternoon and not as many animals have been out as they were in the morning .

I wasn't particulary impresssed by Kilimanjaro Safaris. The animals were not as close to the vehicles as you're meant to believe by Disney vacation DVD's/videos. In fact, when I took the tour, many animals were far away and/or behind trees. The only exception are the giraffes. Also the poacher thing at the end was really dull. Bottom line: This attraction is too over-rated. My opinion: Visit a zoo. :zipit:

Meega, nala kwishta!
The safari ride can be a 'crap shoot' at times, like stated before. Some days, you'll get a great show, other days the animals are far away, or not even around at all.

This is what happens when live animals are used. The alternative is either using robots, or penning up all the animals real close to the ride. Niether is what Disney is going after.

I've been on a few times now. One dull one, when nothing was near. One nice one that was like what other have stated when the bus stopped for a giraffe or odd antilope. And one great one.

The great one was the early morning Sunrise Safari offerd to AKL concieage guests. It was absolutly wonderful. The animal were all very close. We had a few minutes of uncertainty at the Rhino area where they didn't know if they would have to back off. We saw EVERY animal except for one type of antilope. And Spike, the male Lion, was doing his morning roaring when we got to him. And I'll tell you, he can be loud, we could hear him way before we saw him.

I'm convinced the earlier the better, and the weather does effect the experiance. We go in October, when it's not as hot as the summer months.

So try it at differt times of the day and year, I'd bet it will never be the same each time.

We have gone on it twice. The first time was in the afternoon and it was hot, long lines and the animals were not active in Sept. The last time was in Oct. We went directly back and got a FastPass, toured the walk through area and went back for FP. It was still hot, but the animals were more active. Don't know if morning vs afternoon helped. Going again this year in Oct and the day we go we will probably head for the Safari first and either get in line or get a FP.

We used to take the "early morning" advice and go on it first thing with any where between a 15-45 minute wait...in the afternoon it gets waaaay longer and hotter because the que is all outside...but then we got smart and went last thing before park closing and we have done this 4 years in a row and everytime we were able to walk right on with absolutely no wait. I have always seen more animals in the evening than in the morning, but I guess that really all depends on the day and the heat and whatever else. But my suggestion is go right before park close and you will walk right on! :)
