Kids sharing Beds?

Question for you all.

My parents want to take the grandkids to WDW for a week. They were interested in staying at one of the moderate resorts. There are three kids, two of them art 3 year old twins. The three kids would EASILY share a queen bed. Most of the resorts dont allow you to inquire about 5 in a room. Are you able to book the room for 4 and then just purchase another child ticket (that wouldnt have resort privledges)?

The only option they have found now is staying at the FW cabins. We would love for them to get a room at POFQ and then just have the kiddos share the bed. (NO issue on space!)

Is this allowed?

No it's not allowed. If you try to sneak a a 5th person into the room, Mousekeeping will let the front desk know about it. If they want to stay at Port Orleans they should stay at Port Orleans Riverside and reserve one of the rooms with a trundle bed as these rooms actually do sleep 5. The rooms at Port Orleans are not Queen size, they are doubles. The trundle beds pull out from under one of the double beds. The kids could take turns sleeping in the trundle bed each night. I believe these rooms are located in Alligator Bayou. For more information on Port Orleans Riverside, check out www.allears.net and www.portorleans.org Here is a link to a pdf of the layout of the trundle bed rooms in Alligator Bayou. http://www.portorleans.org/images/Port Orleans Resort Room Layout.pdf

Thanks so much for the info!

Definately dont want to do something that isnt allowed, but the price to go up to a deluxe, or a villa, is too much. Again, thanks!

You're quite welcome. Port Orleans is a beautiful resort. We stayed at FQ in June. Unfortunately the trundle bed option is not available at that resort, only at Riverside in the Alligator Bayou section. But if they stay at Riverside, they are still welcome to use the amenities at French Quarter. They are allowed to walk over/ride the boat over and use the FQ pool, use the food court etc as FQ and Riverside are sister resorts.

Im not too familliar with staying on property. If you stay at one resort are you (except in this type of case) only allowed to use THAT resort's ammenities? That would certainly make sense. Just checking!

As far as pools and the like yes, just that one. You can visit ANY resort and shop or eat in the restaurants or just look around. You can rent boats at some resorts, but with 3 small kids I don't think that would be an option.

Yes. When you stay at a Disney Resort you are usually allowed to use only that resorts amenities. For example, I am staying at the Polynesian for my trip this December, which means I have access to everything the Polynesian has to offer, I can use the two pools on the hotel's grounds etc. I can not go to either the Grand Floridian or the Contemporary or any other hotel on property and use their pools because my hotel has two perfectly good pools for me to use.

There are a few exceptions to this rule however. There are a few hotels on property that are considered "Sister" resorts. For example the Yacht and Beach Club Resort. Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter. And the All Star Resorts. These Resorts are all considered to be "Sister" Resorts. You usually don't mention one without mentioning the other. These resorts share amenities between the two resorts. Which means that if you are staying at one, for example Port Orleans Riverside, then you can use the amenities of the other, in this case Port Orleans French Quarter. If you were staying at the Beach Club, you could use the amenities of the Yacht Club. If you were staying at All Star Movies, you could use the amenities of All Star Sports or All Star Music.

While you can use the amenities of your "Sister" resort, you cannot go and use the amenities of other resorts. So if you're staying at Riverside, while you can use the amenities of French Quarter, you cannot go and use the pool of Beach Club or the Polynesian.

Think of it this way, Port Orleans is essentially one resort with two different sub-resorts (Riverside and French Quarter) within the main resort itself, which is why you are allowed to share amenities. People staying at either sub-resort, can use the amenities of the either because they are both staying at the same, larger main resort of "Port Orleans".

I would definitely recommend checking out www.portorleans.org It is a great unofficial website for the Port Orleans resort. We used it a lot before our stay in June. It will give you a lot of insight into the resort and into both Riverside and French Quarter.

A trundle bed room at POR might work out well for them, as there are two double beds and a trundle that would comfortably hold a smaller child. POR is the only moderate allows 5 guests in a standard room (suites are CSR allow more, but are quite expensive).

They might also consider a family suite at ASMu; that'll be much roomier, has a kitchenette and an extra bathroom, and isn't very much more than a moderate room.

We have stayed many times at POFQ with 2 adults and 3 kids under 6. We did get the trundle bed for the 3rd child. Never had any issues.

Just a bit of clarification....there are no trundle bed rooms at POFQ. The only resort with trundles is POR. Occupancy for all rooms in POFQ is 4 people, plus one child under 3 years of age.

Have you thought about the suites at All Star Music??? They are the best.,We stayed there for 2 years and all 5 of us had plenty of room. All of us had beds except the master bedroom had a queen for 2. It is more themed for small children. Things are bright and cheery and very Disney there. They need to check that one out. It is the best situation with 2 baths 2 TV's a fridge, Micro, coffee pot Just perfect for 5 or 6.
