I am trying not to lug my heavy laptop with me next week. Do you guys have suggestions for a memeory card size that would be able to hold a weeks worth of photos? for those who do not take laptops with you how do you keep track of all your photos while on vacation?

You have two options:
- buy more memory cards
- buy portable storage

Yes, there are other possibilities, but with not under the conditions you have set forth.

The first is the cheapest. Now, it is dependent on your camera and avg file size but figure ~1GB per day. This assumes you will NOT do any movies in the camera. If your camera uses SD cards, I'd say 4-6 2GB cards - at ~$11 each. Not 2 4GB cards. If one does go bad, you stand to lose more shots. More, smaller cards can mitigate the risk.

Portable storage is something slightly larger than an iPhone. Basically a small harddrive with a card reader in it. Some have a viewing screen too.

The cool solution would be a WiFi card to load pics right to the web. Not gonna happen in the parks though.

Amazon . com has bulk packs of 2gb San Disc for about 3-5 dollars always. I alwways bring 5-6 when I am on vacation, in case one gets damaged I wont loose EVERYTHING!

I agree with going for a handful of moderate sized cards. Keep two clearly defined storage places, one for used cards, and one for empty cards. I put my used ones in the safe just in case. With memory being cheap, buying additional cards is always a better option. It will let you shoot in a higher resolution allowing for cropping if needed.
