K&K 10 September Trip

WARNING! THIS IS VERY LONG.

Day One Friday, September 9:

Finally after months of waiting and planning the annual September WDW trip, was here. We decided this year to leave late the first night so we could have a fresh start on our first real day at the World. Our plane was not until 9:30 pm, which at time seemed like a great plan ……but even with lots to do to get ready…I wanted to leave as soon as I got up in the morning.

Plane ride was a beautiful night, we got to MCO about 11:30, got rental car and headed to POP Century. When we got there it was packed. The Night of Joy had just gotten out and lots of people milling around. Got checked in and headed to room. Had a room in the 80’s building closest to the bus stops and main building. We couldn’t find any parking, ended up parking all the way on the other side. But hey, it was Disney, I didn’t care!

Day Two, Saturday:

Didn’t jump out of bed as fast as expected, that’s ok, only day one of 10. We went to food court and had a light breakfast. It was like a mad house. Then off to the parks. Got to MGM about 11:00. Yeah, I know the die-hards would have been there at 9:00 am but we are leisurely. Noticed that the Lights Motor Action was at 12:00, so just kinda wandered for a while. Went on the Great Movie Ride. I know folks think this is a cheesy ride but my husband and I really enjoy it. I commented when we first got on it would be nice to get the cowboy scene since it had been several years since we have gotten to enjoy it ……and we did. It was a nice surprise. Headed towards LMA, they really had quite a few lights up already for the Osborne festival. (We hope one year to get to it.) The new SF backdrop looks good. We enjoy the streets and sounds. Husband did a little ‘Singing in the Rain’ performance. Walked right in to LMA, can’t get over the long cue line, must be bad during peak seasons. Sat anywhere we wanted, about mid way up on the left of the show. This show was great!!!!! Spent half the time with my mouth hanging open and poking husband. Vowed to see the show again before we leave.

Husband rode Star Tours (don’t handle motion rides well.) I poked around the shop and smiled at all the kids taking turns getting pictures made to embed in the posters. Nice that they let you look and not buy. Doesn’t happen often. Decide to go to another show, Beauty and the Beast. Always enjoy that they go all out for shows. After, we decided to save the ToT and RnR for next visit. Pool time was calling.

Spent the afternoon swimming in the computer pool. Only about 25 people at the pool. Then the ‘where should be have dinner’ conversation started. Must warn you, we have this same conversation almost every night. Decided on Jiko. Always a nice meal. Towards the middle of the meal I noticed this woman who kinda looked like a woman that runs another Disney web site. Then in the bathroom she came in and I thought….ya I think it’s her. Ran out to tell my husband that I think I just saw Deb Willis (Allears), I explain who she is to him. I am very shy and don’t want to approach her, but he does as we leave. Sure enough, it’s her and he is bringing her over! Mortified that I might not be able to speak, I gush that I am a big fan of her site, end up getting a picture with her. (I am traveling and don’t have access to my pictures.)

Beautiful sunny skies and hot, no rain.

Day Three, Sunday:

Get up, again leisurely, and get to Magic Kingdom about 10:30 am. It’s amazing that feeling you get the first time you walk into the park of your vacation. Just warm and very fuzzy feelings. Hearing the music and seeing Main Street, almost beyond words. Head to PoC, no line. Walk right up and get on a boat. Then head to Splash. Once again, walk right up and get on a boat. Got a little wet, but not bad. Head over to Thunder Mountain, only had to wait for one train before we got one. Amazing how the crowds just disappear, once the Night of Joy is over.

Decide we might be hungry. Grab a turkey leg (Yes, they are wonderful. We made fun of people for years, then tried one.) Walked to Pecos Bill and grab fries to go with the leg. My husband is a fool for cheese fries. He also has the art of cutting off all the meat from the turkey leg. I just get to reap the fruits of his labor.

Ride Haunted Mansion, walked up and the doors were open. Headed over to Small World. Really looks great. We had not riden the ride in several years and last year it was closed for renovations. Decided to give Stitch a try. I am one of those folks who did not enjoy Alien encounter. (Don’t every one yell at once.) Not big on scary rides. We enjoyed it. Yes, it is geared to a younger audience, but fun. Once around Buzz and then off for pool time. Get our first ice cream cone of the trip. Cookies and cream. Yum

Only about 10 people, including us at the pool. Also, our parking lot is empty, husband moves car closer. Head over to Epcot for dinner at Rose and Crown. Yum, sticky toffee pudding. Decide not to stay for Illuminations.

Beautiful sunny skies and hot, no rain.

Day Four Monday:

Decide on a light breakfast at the food court. It is almost like a ghost town. Several sections of seating are closed and almost no one in line. Get to Epcot about 10:00 am. Stop to find our new tile. Ask and discover that our new tile is in the same row as our tile from 1999, just on the other side! Stop and ride Spaceship earth. Another one of those most dos. I know folks want it overhauled, but we enjoy it and go several times during our trip. Head over to Soarin to get a fast pass, note the line is only 20 minutes and decide to wait. Get seated in the middle section, middle row. All I can say is WOW. I was worried about motion sickness, but nothing. The smells were great, wanted to pick my feet up several times. My brother a couple of years ago said it had been his favorite ride at Disneyland, and now I know why.

Walk through the countries toward Germany (lunch) enjoying the special-ness each country has to offer. Wait for the Germany clock to chime 1:00 pm before we head to lunch. We like to get to lunch after 1:00 pm at Germany because that’s when the entertainment starts. Sat with a wonderful English family on a two-week holiday. Their kids enjoyed the show and their youngest want to dance with dad, it was nice.

Afternoon pool time and cocktails. Decide on a light dinner in the food court. Amazed at the variety offered. Wanted to get back to pack for hotel change in the morning and get in bed for full nights rest. Knew we would be up at the crack of dawn to move to the Wilderness Lodge!

Beautiful sunny skies and hot, no rain.

Day Five, Tuesday:

Check into the Wilderness Lodge at 8:30 am and in our room by 9:00 am. This is our favorite place to stay. And vacation doesn’t really feel like it starts until we get to check into the Lodge. We get a great room (all be it at the very end of the hall) overlooking the pool. We love the pool, and we could not have been happier. Spent every morning reading the paper on the patio and watching the ducks in the empty pool.

Head to MGM to hit everything that we did not do the first time. Head over the ToT and get a fast past, then walk right into RnR. End up getting the very front row of the limo. Must say, not my favorite seat (husband loved it.) The take off took my breath away and did not get to enjoy the ride as much as usual. I like sitting near the back so I can see the other parts of the limo during the loops and corkscrews. Everyone has his or her favorites. Then walked over to ToT. This ride is so much fun. It’s amazing; I just start laughing as soon as we enter into the lift. Just can’t help myself. Just so much fun.

Decide it’s lunchtime and get another Turkey Leg and fries.

Head over to the end of the Back Lot Tour to see if they have changed the display, disappointed that they have not. They have had the same villain display for a couple of years. Head over to the Muppets. Fun show. Decide it is hot, need pool time and cocktails.

Have great quality pool time. Ride the slide lots of time. Funny, once you start, hard to stop. Once one adult sees another one, and they realize they can ride to, it puts a big smile on your face. We love this pool and were lucky because it’s not crowded (will get crowded when the weekend comes.) Once again have the long conversation about were to eat, decide on Artist Point. Great meal, husband had buffalo and I had scallops. They also have a wonderful wine list.

Beautiful sunny skies and hot, no rain. (Seeing a theme here)

Day Six, Wednesday:

Head over to Fort Wilderness for breakfast at Trails End. This is a great breakfast and very reasonable. I am not into the character meals, and most breakfast spots require this, so this is a nice option for folks like me. We decide not head to a park because we plan to go to the Spectro Magic and EMH at MK. So off to Downtown Disney for a little shopping.

We were surprised to see how much Halloween stuff was already out. We go down every year the same time and never noticed them before. We also enjoyed the new Lego pieces. Amazing what you can do with Lego’s.

Head back for yet more pool/slide time before getting ready for MK. Now, I am one of those people who sits in my spot 1 ½ hours before the parade. I like a specific spot that always I can lean against a pole and have the protection of a garbage can to keep my spot secure. So I sit down at 6:30, claim my spot and send the husband off to explore. Watched Cinderbration. It was ok. Nice for a distraction, don’t think I would go out of my way to see it. Nice Japanese couple sat down next to me as well as a couple from Ohio with 2 small girls. Husband shows up with a sundae and bottle of water. (What a nice surprise.) The girls really took a shinning to us and wanted us to hold there various Disney dolls so they to could watch the parade too. Enjoyed the fireworks as well.

Afterwards we enjoyed EMH. I had read lots of bad things about this, but I’ve got to say it was great. We headed to Splash Mountain and walked right on. It’s different riding at night. The drop is much scary because you can’t see daylight at the top. By the time we got off the park was empty! Never had to wait for anything. Went on Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Snow White, Peter Pan, Pooh, Space Mountain, Philharmagic, and the cars. The cars were a lot of fun at night. Then for the first time, I saw Cosmic Ray. I had read about him, but had never in all the years I have been going to Disney seen him. After a long night, head back for some much need sleep.

Beautiful sunny skies and hot, no rain.

Day Seven, Thursday:

Sleep in some and decide to head to Epcot to get to all things we have passed up. Head to Test Track, and walk right on. Then over to Mission Space. I play the games while my husband rides. ( I enjoy the first part with the weightlessness, but the rest gets to me.) We head over to the countries to do the few we have not been to yet. Mexico, China and Norway. Enjoy the movies and rides on the various countries. Decide we have to do Soarin again. Head over a get a fast pass because the wait is over 40 minutes; decide we will eat in the mean time. We finally decide on Coral Reef. We had been disappointed we were not going to get to see Turtle Talk, but thought this might curb the feeling. This was probably the one very low point of the trip. Our waiter. If we had not notice how attentive he had been with others, I probably would not have been so bad. He was short and rude to use. One of the only times, I have ever felt the need to fill out a comment card. Was glad when we finally got to leave. Once again Soarin was great, we sat in almost the same seat we did the first time.

Once again, pool/slide/cocktail time. Decide to have dinner at California Grill, even though we are going to have dinner Saturday there. I can’t say this enough. California Grill is my favorite restaurant at the World. I like the view, the food, and the atmosphere. Had a great table in the wine room and our waiter was wonderful. Enjoyed watching the fireworks from outside.

Beautiful sunny skies and hot, no rain.

Day Eight & Nine, Friday & Saturday:

As strange as this might sound, I don’t remember what we did these days. Know we had pool time, and at dinner at Concord Grill on Friday and California Grill on Saturday, but other than that no idea. It did dawn on us that we had not gone to Animal Kingdom …….. we never did get there. Also husband had a couple of Mickey ears. I am not crazy about dark chocolate, so have a Mickey Ice Cream sandwich one day, and a Heath bar another.

Beautiful sunny skies and hot, no rain.

Day Ten, Sunday:

The reality sets in that this is our last full day. Never a good feeling. Remind ourselves that our next vacation in only 50 weeks away. (haha)

Go to Trails End for breakfast. We get there and they have no power, but there is still food. Enjoy a nice dark meal before heading to Magic Kingdom and enjoy PoC, ride over to Tom Sawyers island and explore caves and forts. Ride the train to Main Street and walk to CoP. Another one of the rides that’s timeless. We look forward to it every year. Grab a Dole whip before heading back for pool time and to think about packing. Sunday the pool was packed, had a hard time finding chairs.

That evening we had dinner and show seating at Hollywood and Vine and also EMH at MGM. We usually go to Brown Derby or Mama Melrose, but decided to try something else. It was like a mad house. People everywhere trying to get seated. Ended up waiting about 25 minutes past our seating time. Meal was good with a large variety.

Head over to grab a seat for Fantasmic. Enjoyed nice conversations with couple in front of us. They had gotten married in January at WDW and were back to enjoy a real vacation this time. They were just starting their vacation, while we were saying good-bye to ours. It made the time pass quickly. They were both big fans like us. After the show we enjoyed EMH. A little crowded but not bad. Waited about 30 minutes totals for ToT. Went on RnR, Movie Ride, and Muppet Movie. Said a long good bye and told the park we would see it next year.

Day Eleven, Monday:

The day to say good-bye came. Always hard having to call it the end. We did have a small incident that involved talking with management, 911, and the sheriffs department. We found a young woman (17) on the ground in the hallway about 8:00 am. Her family had reported her missing (they were staying at the Villa’s). She was half coherent and 911 took her to the hospital, but we ended up having to give a statement to the police. Kinda an odd end to the vacation.

After everything settle downed. Went downstairs and checked in for our plane. I’ve got to say this is a great service. It was great not to have to load up the car with the luggage or lug it from the parking garage. Hope they keep it.

Decide to head to MGM so we could watch LMA again. Once again, sat with my mouth hanging open. Ate lunch at the Brown Derby. Drove over to Boardwalk and caught a boat to Epcot. We had to get candy from England before we left. Decided we could squeeze one more visit to Soarin. Sat in the first car, first row this time. It was a difference experience, still just as wonderful. There was also a film crew, filming someone on the ride.

We stopped at Rose and Crown and had a Cider and Sticky Toffee Pudding for the road and head back to the boat.

Got to the airport and lifted off about 6:45 pm. All and all was a wonderful vacation, and I am already counting down the days until next year. Only 348 days, 1 hour, 42 minutes and 54..53…52…51 …sec.

One side note. This was our first year with the Disney Dining Card. It was such a cost save. If you’ve get the chance, get it.
