iMac G5

Beauty, ain't she? :)

Alright....here's the deal. I bought an HP Media Center computer back in November. It had been working fine, up until when I needed to have the ethernet card replaced. So we shipped it off to HP from Circuit City on July 4th, right? Well, a few weeks later, we get a call from them saying that the computer, all together, cannot be fixed and that they would refund the entire purchase. Of course, I am furious, because I never made any backups, so I lost all of my files.

So I went to the Apple Store in my local mall today to buy a Mac. They still didn't have the iMac G5s in, so I went ahead and ordered it right there. I'm getting sick and tired of the troubles with PC, to tell you the truth, and I think making the move to a Mac is a good thing. Actually, the only bad thing is that RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is not Mac compatible, so I have to use my laptop to run it. Anyways, it'll be here in 3 weeks....I can't wait!

What mall did you get the iMac at?

Also, RCT2 (Roller Coaster Tycoon 2) is available on Mac. While at the apple store browse the games shelf, they have it!

The Mall at Wellington Green in Wellington....and I didn't buy it there, I ordered it. They said they won't get a shipment until the end of this month. I don't understand that though....they shouldn't have started advertising until it was available.

They do have RCT2? I looked all over the net for it and every forum I've looked in has posts saying it has never been made....will have to check on that though.

They have NoLimits but no RCT2. I live at the Apple Store, I know.

Yeah, do you know when they'll get RCT2 or the new version of The Sims? I gave the permission for the BF to get an Apple. He had one before but became frustrated with the lack of games.

Probably never for RCT2 due to it's ties with the Windows operating system so much, and the lazy developers. The Sims2 has not had an announced shipping date for Mac yet, but it's comming. Same with Doom III.

Okay, I'm now officially insanely jealous. Someday I'll have a G5 -- of course I could get one sooner but that would mean I'd have to eliminate or greatly reduce my Disney World plans, so it will most likely be later rather than sooner.

Enjoy!!!

Congratulations on the switch! I made the switch last October when I was one of the first people to buy an iBook G4. You won't be disappointed. Oh, those iMac G5's.. they're so ugly they're cute, haha.

Great!

:sohappy:

I'm getting one too! I was going to buy the iMac G4, but they ran out of them. I like the new iMac, though. The Apple Store here in Charlotte said the same thing (a shipment at the end of the month).

I have a question though...

I want a customized one (160 gb Hard Drive, and Wireless Keyboard/Mouse)...should I order it online or wait and get it at the store?

I got it customized....added the 160GB hard drive, along with upping the memory to 1GB and also purchased the AirPort Extreme Card, Final Cut Express 2 software, wireless keyboard and mouse, and .Mac. I would suggest ordering it online now, who knows when these people will get 'em at the store. I got an email saying mine was suppose to ship on or before October 12th; the .Mac software has already been shipped though.

Actually, the guy I talked to at the store said that if they got the computers before I did, I could simply cancel my order and buy the computer there.

Forget Apple.....

Yes, that is right, I am forgetting Apple --- I just canceled my order. Probably one of the best decisions I have made in life, IMO.

I ordered it almost a month back, and it isn't expected to ship until sometime after October 12th. I went to my local Apple Store to hopefully buy one earlier tonight, but they were sold out. They had some of the iMac's up though, so I tried it out and wasn't impressed. I wasn't liking it at all, and I hated that white space below the screen.

Anyways, I canceled my order about a 1/2 hour ago and just completed an order on Dell's website. Customized myself a Dimension 8400; even though it is costing more than the iMac G5 I had ordered, I feel like I have made the right decision, even though I must live on with spyware, viruses, and the "blue screen of death." Not getting a Mac also entitles me to getting the iRiver, Archos, or Samsung MP3 players that I have been wanting (can't wait to get rid of my iPod, I hate the thing to death anymore).

I might get a Mac in the future, however.....I usually get a new computer every year or two, so it is a possibility. :D

BOOOO!! :fork: I can't believe you did this!! It makes me so sad. I've had 3 Dells over the years and they all had something wrong with them. And they use Windows! Well, do what you want, but I'll be sitting here with my iBook G4 enjoying a virus-free, spyware-free, blue-screen-of-death-free environment. :p

What's wrong with your iPod? Is it malfunctioning or..?

Yeah, I've been having some problems with it, mostly the battery. The guys at the store told me a few weeks back that it really isn't time to send it in (even though I've had for a year!), so I needed to restore it. Well, I've done that three times.....battery still only lasts for about an hour. I go back yesterday...."oh, try it again." Plus, I don't really want to spend $100 getting a new one from them after sending it in when I can buy a better MP3 player (or even the new iPod from HP) for only $300 more.

Then there's the remote....it's not working. So I am trying to send a request form in to get it fixed, but after I type my Apple ID in, it's saying they don't have my information.

So yeah, I am not really happy. However, check back with me at a later time....I have been thinking about getting a Powerbook in the future to replace my Toshiba laptop. :)

As for Dell....bought a computer from them about 3 years ago. I liked it, worked fine, but I got tired with it (as I do with all of my computers).

I get tired with all of my computers as well. Except my iBook. I've had it for 11 months and I have no desire whatsoever to get rid of it. If you can get a PowerBook, go for it!

There are places online where you can order iPod batteries for cheaper and there are instructions to replace them yourself. I don't remember what they are, but they're out there. I'm sorry you're having such trouble with your iPod. Mine has worked like a champ since I got it (about 2 years ago). I can't comment on the remote since I don't have one. The thing with Apple is, in order to get something fixed, you really have to persue it, because they like to blame malfunctioning machines on everything but the machine itself being faulty. Have you tried calibrating the battery? Drain it all the way down and then plug it in and let it charge. Maybe that will help?

The last straw for Dell for me was when I called up with a major problem, the tech people had NO idea what I was talking about. But when I called back maybe an hour later, I got someone who said they'd been having calls about that all day. Obviously no communication at the Dell support center. Plus, the tech support people have very heavy accents, so bad that I cannot understand them. That's no good when trying to diagnose a computer problem. Also, I had a Dell tower once where they replaced the motherboard twice, the hard drive twice, and the computer still had the same problem, and they refused to send me a new one. I ended up installing Windows XP and the problem went away. Who knows? But, yeah, not too fond of Dell.

Thanks for the advice, I will look into the iPod batteries. :)

The only reason I actually went to Dell is because I have bought two Sony and one HP computers since March '03 and have had problems with all of them....I thought it'd be better to stick with a computer-only company.
