Just got back (5/22-5/24)

I just got back from a spur of the moment couple days at WDW - I had to get out of town to keep from going crazy. Anyway, thought I'd share a couple observations from this really quick, too-short trip.

Arrived about 9:30pm on Sunday at All-Star Sports - my first time there. Nice little resort, it was the only Value Resort room available at AP rate at short notice (I made ressies late Friday afternoon). First thing I do when I settle in my room is turn on resort TV. The new hostess of the Top 7, Stacy, makes me miss Kryssa (who made me miss the Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah Tip for the Day). Even what seemed to be an almost identical script, Stacy just lacks something. But I did find a channel on the TV not listed on the channel line-up card in the room - channel 96. It continuously showed old animated shorts (mostly Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Chip&Dale, etc) sans commercials. Nice for the background noise I need to fall asleep. And BTW, I did find the Kryssa version of Top 7 playing on the monitors at the MK bus stops the next evening.

Monday: I didn't ride a lot, just mostly strolling the parks, relaxing and trying to catch a few of the new or renewed attractions. Went to AK, MK, Studios, and back to MK for Spectromagic and Wishes.
at Animal Kingdom - saw Lucky the Dinosaur - simply amazing and the little "show" of him and his "handler" is funny and cute.
at Disney MGM - watched LMA after a filling dinner at Sci-Fi Dine In. I usually find stunt shows boring or predictable and usually dislike action movies and their incessant need for a car chase, but I really liked this show. The choreography of the cars and other vehicles was unbelievable!
at Magic Kingdom - saw the most current version of Stitch (in what I believe will be an ongoing evolution). The new projections of Stitch scampering around are OK and seem to keep the action at a better pace. Small kids are still unsure of the ride. Before the show even started, a little girl started panicking and had her mother help her leave. And at the end of the show as we were exiting, I heard another little girl say, "Daddy, don't make me go on that ride again." oh well.
Also saw the refurbed IASW. The new facade is really nice, though I miss the sun on the ceiling of the loading area. I think the new loading arrangement almost makes the ride a people-eater. Even with Peter Pan down, and at a busy part of the afternoon (about 2pm), I was in and out in about 15 minutes.
I was however disappointed that I couldn't ride Haunted Mansion. I was going to ride after Wishes (at 10pm, park closed at 11pm) but the CM at the line entrance said it was down for technical problems. So I went on POTC instead.
And I was glad to see Chernabog back in SpectroMagic - I hadn't seen him for the last 2 or 3 times I've been.

Tuesday: checked out and went to Downtown Disney for a little shopping and look-around before heading home. The new LEGO displays are a welcome change, the old ones were getting a little faded. I also picked up the new official 2-disc CD and listened to it on the 3-hour drive home. Great! I love the mix of the older attraction songs and the songs of the newer attractions that replaced the older ones (i.e.: old/new versions of Tiki room, World of Motion/Test Track, Horizons/Mission:Space, etc).

That's all for now. Now I just can't wait to go back ;)

As far as the new LEGO sculptures, there's the shark/crab/fish (replaced dinosaur family), a refurbished sea monster, a family of tourists with their dogs (replaced the flying saucer and alien), a large tyrannosaurus rex (which moves and roars occasionally), and a large transformer-looking robot. There's also 6 windows on the building with motion-activated moving scenes of world cities (NY, London, Sydney, Paris, Hong Kong, Moscow - they replace the snoring man). They also got rid of the Ronald McDonald LEGO sculpture.
