Just got a Disney answer from a Universal employee

I called to ask about July 2015 rates, and the employee told me "Nope, no rates for 2015 have been released yet at all." I kindly informed her that I knew June 2015 was open, so she checked and verified this, but also verified that July still wasn't open yet. She recommended I call 4 months in advance.

I know I've brought this up before but I don't understand Universal's thinking behind this. I know most people don't plan their vacations a year in advance, but some (including DVC members) have to. I really think that if Universal wants to compete with Disney on an attendance basis, they need to get more people staying multiple days at Universal and making it a bigger part of their "Orlando Vacation", as opposed to a 1 day side trip part of their "Disney Vacation". To do this, they need to start opening their booking dates closer to when Disney does.

They're trying I know that. I see the commercials on TV up here. It's all about Universal and they treat it as if it is a worthwhile vacation on its own. You know, it sort of is, I would fly down there just for 2-3 days at Universal but most wouldn't.

They are competing with Disney and probably should be thankful that Disney gives them so many customers.

With my husband's work we never know more than 5 months in advance when we will get our vacation and sometimes it is even more....depending on how many people pick summer vacation weeks ahead of him. So we know we go on vacation in the summer...June, July or August....we just never know until the end of January which week(s) he will get 100%. So, if we are lucky enough to get early June we don't usually get our first ADR choices at WDW which the past two trips we have just done fewer sit downs.
