Just Back from Disney and Contemporary 4/23

Hi all, we just got back from Disney yesterday from staying at the Contemporary. Our weather was not that good for the week, cloudy and cool most days. Our last two days had the sun come out and we were finally able to get in a pool day. The Contemporary resort is a beautiful resort but the location of it is the main reason we booked it. It was wonderful to hop on the Monorail to go to the MK or Epcot or we would even walk to MK. They did a nice job on Easter for the kids. They had a candy round up and brought back bags of candy. My son and I ate at the California Grill and I was not that impressed. Very expensive and not worth the money in my opinion. We went for sushi and some appetizers. The waiter raved about a goat cheese ravioli and a barbecue flat bread. Both were 15.00 each. So we tried them as the appetizers. The ravioli was just that , one ravioli in a bowl with some tomato broth. I thought the flat bread in the contempo on the 4th floor had better flat bread and less expensive. The sushi we had was also disappointing. A Dragon roll ( 6 slices ) for 25.00 was definitely not worth it. The sushi in Japan at Epcot was much better and the wasabi was very hot there. ( I like it hot) We also had breakfast at Chef Mickeys and although it was nice to see the characters, the bill was 160.00 for the 5 of us and that is a lot to pay for some eggs and waffles. There was more food and it was good but we did feel a little rushed. The bill was put on our table while we were still eating and I hate when any restaurant does that.

As for Disney the kids loved it . We just did MK and EPCOT. They did all the rides ( 8 and 9 yr old) I have not been to Disney for 7 years and it did change. I remember the little old fashion shops on Main Street. Now when you walk in its like a huge connecting Disney store in the mall. I remember an old fashion phone in a candy store where you could hear a conversation on the other end, now the candy store is no different then the one in Busch Gardens or Six Flags. If you are planning on seeing Elsa and Anna from Frozen...... good luck. The line is always 4.5 to 5 hours long. This includes Epcot and MK.

I do love EPCOT and visiting the countries. We tried to sample some food and drink from each and had a great time doing it. The only thing I missed in EPCOT was they do not do anymore parades there. The workers told me they stopped doing that. I was there for the Millineum and that parade was awesome.
The parks are kept immaculately clean.

By the way, the moats are full of water again and the crane is gone. I know this was a discussion before me leaving.

I will write more later... need to unpack and do some errands.

Thank you for your honest review of your days at WDW. Your bill for Chef Mickey is the reason why I decided against it for our family of 5. I know the characters are there, but I can't justify paying that much for breakfast.

I'm never a fan of receiving my check before I'm finished eating. It's like their "done" with you, whether you are done or not.

I'm glad the kids loved their trip and that is what truly matters. Can't wait to read more!!!

Thank you for your trip review. Looking forward to hearing more.

We are doing Chef Mickey's for breakfast, and I am probably in the minority. . . I HOPE we get our check early, where we can take care of it whenever we want.

Under normal circumstances, I'd agree that it's annoying. But when we're ready to get to rope drop, we won't be held hostage by an absent waiter.

Back ..... We did use the magical bands and they work very good. Was great for the fast passes, park tickets room key and you can charge everything to your card with a quick scan and pin number. We all enjoyed them very much. Just be careful. It is easy to charge quite a bit to your room without realizing it.

We went on Splash Mountain 3 times during the week. All 3 times it broke down while we were on it. One time they had to take us off the log and exit through the back of the building. It was definitely a behind the scenes look there. The classics like peter pan, its a small world, pirates of the caribbean are all the same and took me back to my childhood days.

We also did the Princess Lunch in EPCOT at Akershus Royal Banquet. The girls loved it. In fact that was their favorite out of Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace. Speaking of Crystal Palace, that use to be our favorite. It seems the quality of food has dropped there. My wife was looking forward to these chocolate toffee nut deserts they use to have and I was looking forward to their key lime pie. No more toffee. I asked the waitress who has been there for many years and she said the menu has changed so much in the years and a lot of those items are no longer there. Even the key lime pie is now reduced to small squares instead of actual pie slices. A bit of a bummer.

The parades in Magic Kingdom are always magical. The crowds were bad in the afternoon. Planning the fast pass for the afternoon is the way to go. If you use the early magical hour , you can walk right on the ride. My girls really enjoyed the enchanted stories with Belle. One even was able to play the part of the Beast and danced with Belle.

We also rented the small speed boats at the Contemporary. That was a lot of fun and not too expensive. Plus they give AAA discount.

Going to do some more laundry... ask away and I will get back to you.

No way. But if someone really has their heart on seeing the Frozen Characters the best way to do it is to find out when they will be in the Magic Kingdom in the Princess Hall next to the carousel. Be at the park before it opens when there is an Magical Hour then dash to that line once they let you in. That is your best chance. Good luck!
